Khatami: Anyone Thinking that the Abduction of British Servicemen is Inappropriate, is "Accustomed to Seeing the Islamic and Arab World as Weak"
Khatami is the same man that John Kerry was hob-nobing with only a few months ago where Kerry called the United States "an international Pariah."
"Time was, the HMS Cornwall or any other British warship would have simply blown the Iranian motorboats that seized 15 British sailors out of the water. But these are the days when Western leaders run to the United Nations seeking meaningless resolutions of condemnation. The problem with the West is we never get it. We never grasp the fact that appeasement, conciliation and endless negotiation do not work and that the only time documents achieve peace is when the words at the top read "unconditional surrender."
Misunderstanding and Iran:
"Iran wants to quit the international community, but the international community won't let it. No act of warfare against the civilized world, no defiance of the United Nations, no violation of international norms, no brazen lie is ever enough to mark Iran as unworthy of outreach, dialogue and the art of sweet persuasion. When the Iranians seized 15 British sailors in a blatant hostage-taking, the commander of the British ship purred that it might be a "simple misunderstanding." If so, Iran is cursed with terrible luck. Another such misunderstanding lasted 444 days back in 1979-81."

Travolta's house in Florida above: Don't we all have multiple mansions on both Coasts and two large private jets in our driveway? (Travolta actually owns 5 jets). And notice the fleet of cars & SUV's. But you know, we really should make sure that that starving village in Africa avoids burning fossil fuels and goes with more expensive solar panels for the sake of our planet. Image of your average African house to the right. Good lord! I would truly be ashamed to mention the words "global warming" if I were Travolta. These Hollywood blow-hards and their Guru Al Gore give new meaning to that old term "limousine liberals." It's truly difficult to imagine greater self-absorbed hypocrisy on display.

The humiliation continues as the Iranians attempt to get Great Britain to grovel even further. Yesterday British seawoman Faye Turney declared that the British force had "trespassed" on Iranian territory and that her captors are "very compassionate", while nervously puffing on a cigarette and wearing a Hijab. Today she declares that Britain should "withdraw it's troops from Iraq." HOLY Shiite! Meanwhile the UK want the UN to demand the release of its sailors. THE UN! This is like a comedy scene from Saturday Night Live. I mean, what person rooted in reality puts stock in the UN? Iran has been laughing at the UN for years now, and the UK think the UN is the address to "pressure" these Mullahs? To be continued....

Iran today demanded that Britain publicly lie and humiliate itself if it ever wants to see its Navy personnel again. "First they have to admit that they have made a mistake. Admitting the mistake will facilitate a solution to the problem," said Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki. Of course the West has become so weak-kneed that we can all expect that British groveling will be involved.

A big congratulations to Congress: House Republicans led by Rep. Steven King (R-NY) today surprised Democrats with a procedural vote to protect public-transportation passengers from being sued if they report suspicious activity -- the first step by lawmakers to protect "John Doe" airline travelers already targeted in a lawsuit by Muslim imams that charges profiling... The bill passed 304 to 121. Complete Roll Call.
The language is based on a bill introduced last week by Rep. Steve Pearce, New Mexico Republican, to protect "John Does," or passengers targeted in the suit filed by six Muslim imams earlier this month in Minneapolis. The amendment is retroactive to activities that took place on or after Nov. 20, 2006 -- the date of the Minneapolis incident, and authorizes courts to award attorneys' fees to defendants with immunity. "By passing a specific grant of immunity that covers passengers reporting suspicious activity in good faith, we will prevent special-interest lawyers from using 'creative' legal theories to attack the well-meaning passengers who make reports," the memo said. Check out the related cool video below:
I have been searching for an image of that "peace" creep defecating on a US flag in Portland in the middle of a "peace" demonstration in front of women and children. Michelle Malkin found the image but chose to crop it for reasons of good taste. Of course, here at the Neocon we have no good taste so if anyone finds the entire image, feel free to send it along. I am of the school that everyone should see who we are dealing with domestically. Anyway, notice the children being exposed to this episode. Notice how some seem stunned and look away, while other cheer this "expression" of hatred of America. A mental disorder? You make the call.

Michael Barone hits the nail on the head with his piece today in Real Clear Politics. There is an element of malignant narcissism in those who worship at the alter of "global warming," as if history began yesterday and it's all about us. The Earth is a dynamic place, constantly changing, always has been, always will be. Forces well beyond our control are always at work: glaciers, forests and deserts expand and recede with fluctuations in temperatures; continents shift and sea levels change over millions of years; sudden catastrophic events have occurred many times; the intensity of energy from our sun fluctuates; asteroids and comets have collided with our planet numerous times; sudden mass extinctions have occurred multiple times (in fact 99% of all living creatures that have roamed the earth since the beginning of time are now extinct with no relation to human activity). Yet many people have a need to convince themselves that it's all about us and that we can control everything. In their strange narcissistic world, we are like gods; our bad behavior and policy does not only dictate the actions of Islamic radicals who crash airplanes into our buildings, it dictates the very climate of the entire planet. And there is this immature notion that the temperature and weather that we grew up in is the ideal permanent climate because that's all we know. The average human (even Al Gore) will roam the earth only about 700,000 hours, that's it. Not even enough time to register as a blink of an eye compared to the long history of our planet, solar system and universe. Yet we are to ignore millions of years of history and join the Al Gore "the-earth-is-coming-to-an-end-because-humans-have-misbehaved-over-the-past-100-years" cult? I'll take my chances with my SUV.
"Read the history of the 1930s: fascism, communism, world war. There are worse things than a rise of 1 or 2 degrees Centigrade.Barone
The natural human yearning for spirituality has produced in many people educated in secular-minded universities and enveloped in an atmosphere of contempt for traditional religion a faith that we vulgar human beings have a sacred obligation not to inflict damage on Mother Earth. But science tells us that the Earth and its climate have been constantly changing.
Gore and his followers seem to assume that the ideal climate was the one they got used to when they were growing up. When temperatures dropped in the 1970s, there were warnings of an impending ice age. When they rose in the 1990s, there were predictions of disastrous global warming. This is just another example of the solipsism of the baby boom generation, the pampered and much-praised age cohort that believes the world revolves around them and that all past history has become irrelevant.
We're told in effect that the climate of the late 1950s and early 1960s was, of all those that have ever existed, the best of all possible climates. Not by science. But as a matter of faith."

Powerline reports on a growing organized movement to fight CAIR-type Muslim grievance lawsuits. Attorney's are volunteering, money is being raised and groups are communicating with each other on how to confront the CAIR-type Muslim grievance machine that attempts to terrorize average US citizens by abusing the dysfunctional US legal system to sue the pants off of average folks questioning the uglier sides of radical Islam. Their goal is not necessarily to win in court, which (absent an OJ type jury), usually doesn't stand a chance in hell. Their goal is to silence, to make it expensive for average Americans to defend their right to free speech on Islam related matter through frivolous lawsuits. The New 'John Doe' movement is meant to counter that campaign.
This is the complete video of the "peace" creeps burning a US Soldier in effigy in Portland. A few days ago I posted a single photo of this event and received an e-mail from a person claiming to have "a legal copyright" to the photo, even though there were multiple people there taking photographs of the event and images of the event appeared all over the Internet, it's kind of like trying to un-ring the bell. I asked for proof from the person that she is the "legal copyright holder" and I received an e-mail back stating that she does not have to prove that she owns the copyright. Okydoky. None-the-less, I will remove that single photo in question and replace it with this far more powerful video of the event because it comes with audio of the sickos chanting slogans against US GI's as they burn the effigy. You make the call.
OK, so here we have a situation where Iranian military forces entered Iraq in force and surrounded a smaller unit of British soldiers, taking them captive, moving them to Tehran, declaring them "spy's, and threatening to put them on trail for "espionage". Of course the penalty for "espionage" in Iran is death. This, for the record, was not Iran's the first attempt at kidnapping Western soldiers in the exact same fashion.
Churchill or Thatcher would have understood that Iran must be taught that such a strategy is costly, and will not pay dividends. Unfortunately, they will probably learn the opposite from today's British government as Blair is already scrambling to appease the Iranian regime in the hope for a quick resolution (which is unlikely). The British soldiers are already being used as bargaining chits in Iran's efforts to secure the release of it's operatives captured in Iraq and held for assisting Iraqi insurgents; and Iran is also going to use the captives to squeeze out whatever information they can on the whereabouts of the recent high-profile defector, former deputy Defense Minister Ali Resa Asgari.
In the meantime, the UN imposed more sanctions on Iran, and the clock is ticking on a military bombing campaign on its nuclear facilities. Tick...tick...tick...tick...

Just when you think the "peace" creeps couldn't stoop any lower, you come across another article from a "peace" demonstration in Oregon.
"The most disturbing scene of the afternoon, however, involved the man who pulled down his pants in front of women and children and defecated on a burning U.S. flag. This disgusting act actually elicited cheers from some members of the crowd." In a distantly related story, environmental creeps are proclaiming this The Year Without Toilet Paper. No Joke.
A tale of the same generation living on different planets: Spring break is always a good time to compare and contrast how different people from the same generation are spending their time. Images of spoiled college kids gorging themselves on alcohol and generally making fools of themselves in front of cameras are everywhere. Most have little appreciation of their fortunate situation in the world and no knowledge of the sacrifices and history that allows them live the sort of meaningless existence that they take for granted every day. On the other-hand, millions of young Americans have volunteered for a more meaningful set of experiences which will last them a lifetime. These are the folks that carry the heavy burden so the rest of us can go about our business and enjoy the fruits of America without thinking about it too much. Enjoy your spring break...party on...

A few years ago I went to China for a trade show. One day I was strolling through Tienanmen Square and crossed on over into the Forbidden City. Not far into the Forbidden City I was approached by an old peddler selling copies of Chairman Mao's Little Red Book. He wanted $15 dollars. I really had no interest, but negotiated with him non-the-less; I offered 2 dollars. After a few moments of back and forth, I ended up buying the book from this old Chinese man for $4 dollars in US currency, and I probably over-payed. I then imagined Chairman Mao overturning in his grave on the other side of the square as this capitalist transaction, involving a collection of his quotes, just took place in the heart of the Chinese Communist empire; The irony was certainly not lost on me.
Anyway, I had bought the book, so I thought I might as well read it since it did play such a significant role in modern Chinese history. Mao certainly had a way of looking at things and he certainly was a Communist of the worst sort. Then I came to page 467, and I finally found a paragraph that I can identify with Mao on... and I kid you not... check it out:
"People who are liberal look upon the principles of Marxism as abstract dogma. They approve of Marxism, but are not prepared to practise it or to practise it in full; they are not prepared to replace their liberalism by Marxism. These people have their Marxism, but they have their liberalism as well - they talk Marxism but practise liberalism; they apply Marxism to others but liberalism to themselves. They keep both kinds of goods in stock and find a use for each. This is how the minds of certain people work."
Wow! Even Mao recognized the double-talking, two-faced hypocritical insincerity of the modern day "liberal."

On a Lighter Note: Muslim pupils beat teacher to death over Koran: MUSLIM pupils at a secondary school in northeastern Nigeria beat a teacher to death today after accusing her of desecrating the Koran. Oluwatoyin Olusase, a Christian, was adjudicating an Islamic Religious Knowledge exam at the school in Gombe state when the incident occurred.
And then there is this: Two women 'to be stoned to death for adultery' TWO Sudanese women were sentenced to death by stoning for adultery after a trial in which they had no lawyer and which used Arabic, not their first language, the rights group Amnesty International said. North Sudan implements Islamic sharia law.

Lord Monckton of the UK calls on the former Vice President to "step up to the plate and defend his advocacy of policies that could do grave harm to the welfare of the world's poor. If Mr. Gore really believes global warming is the defining issue of our time, the greatest threat human civilization has ever faced, then he should welcome the opportunity to raise the profile of the issue before a worldwide audience of billions by defining and defending his claims against a serious, science-based challenge."
"A careful study of the substantial corpus of peer-reviewed science reveals that Mr. Gore's film, An Inconvenient Truth, is a foofaraw of pseudo-science, exaggerations, and errors, now being peddled to innocent schoolchildren worldwide."

I hope that in this lofty atmosphere the caution and scepticism of true science will once again prevail, this time over the shibboleths and nostrums of the false, new religion of climate alarmism."
"Forasmuch as it is His Lordship who now flings down the gauntlet to the Vice-President, it shall be the Vice-President's prerogative and right to choose his weapons by specifying the form of the Great Debate. The Wall Street Journal delivers an excellent article this morning about Radical Islam and their fellow travellers on the left. A marriage of convenience:
"It is a profound truth," declared the British Socialist Party in a 1911 manifesto, "that Socialism is the natural enemy of religion." Not the least of the oddities in the subsequent history of progressive politics is that today it has become the principal vehicle in the West for Islamist goals and policies.
For Muslim voters in Europe, the attractions of the Socialists are several. Socialists have traditionally taken a more accommodating approach to immigrants and asylum-seekers than their conservative rivals. They have championed the welfare state and the benefits it offers poor newcomers. They have promoted a multiculturalist ethos, which in practice has meant respecting Muslim traditions even when they conflict with Western values. In foreign policy, Socialists have often been anti-American and, by extension, hostile to Israel. That hostility has only increased as Muslim candidates have joined the Socialists' electoral slates and as the Muslim vote has become ever more crucial to the Socialists' electoral margin.
More mysterious, however, at least as a matter of ideology, has been the dalliance of the progressive left with the (Islamic) political right. Self-styled progressives, after all, have spent the past four decades championing the very freedoms that Islam most opposes: sexual and reproductive freedoms, gay rights, freedom from religion, pornography and various forms of artistic transgression, pacifism and so on. For those who hold this form of politics dear, any long-term alliance with Islamic politics ultimately becomes an ideological, if not a political, suicide pact. One cannot, after all, champion the cause of universal liberation in alliance with a movement that at its core stands for submission.
This is not, of course, the first time such a thing has happened in the history of the progressive movement, or in European history. On the contrary, it is the recurring theme. In the early 20th century, the apostles of Fabianism--George Bernard Shaw among them--looked to the Soviet Union for inspiration; in the 1960s the model was Mao; in the late 1970s, the great French philosopher Michel Foucault went to Iran to write a paean to Khomeini's revolution. In nearly every case, the progressives were, by later admission, deceived, but not before they had performed their service as "useful idiots" to a totalitarian cause.
But the stakes today are different. At question for Europeans is not the prevailing view of a distant country. The question is the shaping of their own. Europe's liberal democrats were able, sometimes with outside help, to preserve their values in the face of an outside threat. Whether they can resist the temptations of Islamosocialism remains to be seen.
Of course, the same is true in the united States, although these forces are still largely marginalized compared to Europe. Please check out this video below from yesterday's "peace" march in Washington. Smelly leftists converged to "oppose the war." Notice how many folks in the crowd are waring Kaffia's, the traditional Palestinian symbol of "resistance". Notice the Palestinian and Lebanese flags, flying side by side with the traditional symbols of the far left. All of this speaks loudly about the sad state of affairs on the left in general, where folks are so alienated from reality that they would rather accommodate religious fanaticism and fascism, than stand for traditional Western values.

"Testimony gathered by the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission shows hundreds of women have burned themselves to death rather than endure various forms of abuse. One woman committed suicide after her father-in-law tried to rape her. Another set herself on fire because her brothers wouldn't let her get married, preferring to keep her as a servant. One woman told her mother before she died that her husband was beating her every day."And where is NOW on all this? More concerned that rich Western white women have an unlimited right to a partial-birth abortion.
This is a shining example of how radical Muslim groups operate on University Campuses. Billions of dollars have been invested so far in studying climate change ($20 billion from the Bush administration alone), and very little of that money has landed in the laps of those outside of the global warming orthodoxy. As weatherman James Spann says: "I would not listen to anyone that is a politician, a journalist, or someone in science who is generating revenue from this issue." The only problem is that would leave out an enormous number of scientists who have already cashed in on it....And to generate ever more research cash, ever more hyped warnings and scary scenarios must be generated.

Why on earth should the rest of us care if Palestinians kidnap a BBC reporter? The BBC does not represent western civilization. For the most part they are a mouth piece for Islamo-nut-jobs and Palestinian terrorist. So a BBC reporter being kidnapped by Palestinians is on about the same level of concern as a Hamas activist being kidnapped by a Fatah activist. Or say an Al Jazeera reporter being kidnapped by Iraqi insurgents. A pox on both their houses. Is that harsh? OK so I do have concern for the individual reporter, Alan Johnston. As for the BBC, let them eat cake.

Timothy Ball, a former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg in Canada, has received five death threats by email since raising concerns about the degree to which man was affecting climate change. "I can tolerate being called a sceptic because all scientists should be sceptics, but then they started calling us deniers, with all the connotations of the Holocaust. That is an obscenity. It has got really nasty and personal."
Dr Myles Allen, from Oxford University, agreed. He said: "The Green movement has hijacked the issue of climate change. It is ludicrous to suggest the only way to deal with the problem is to start micro managing everyone, which is what environmentalists seem to want to do."
Nigel Calder, a former editor of New Scientist, said: "Governments are trying to achieve unanimity by stifling any scientist who disagrees. Einstein could not have got funding under the present system."

Much Hoopla about a Winston Churchill article recently discovered but never published, entitled "How The Jews Can Combat Persecution" written in 1937, Winston Churchill outlined his views of a new wave of anti-Semitisim sweeping across Europe and the United States before WWII, in the mid 1930's:
"It would be easy to ascribe it to the wickedness of the persecutors, but that does not fit all the facts," the article read.
"It exists even in lands, like Great Britain and the United States, where Jew and Gentile are equal in the eyes of the law and where large numbers of Jews have found not only asylum, but opportunity. These facts must be faced in any analysis of anti-Semitism. They should be pondered especially by the Jews themselves. For it may be that, unwittingly, they are inviting persecution -- that they have been partly responsible for the antagonism from which they suffer." The article adds: "The central fact which dominates the relations of Jew and non-Jew is that the Jew is 'different'. He looks different. He thinks differently. He has a different tradition and background. He refuses to be absorbed."
Elsewhere, Churchill praised Jews as "sober, industrious, law-abiding" and urged Britons to stand up for the Jewish race against persecution. "There is no virtue in a tame acquiescence in evil. To protest against cruelty and wrong, and to strive to end them, is the mark of a man," he wrote.
I fail to see why the hoopla surrounding this unpublished article. It was written by a man whose observations were those of a life-long friend of the Jews not an antagonist. Winston Churchill was the foremost British Zionist, one of the few who openly supported the creation of the State of Israel, despite the ridicule of many of England's upper crust snobs. "There goes Winnie with his Jewish friends" was uttered more the once. This article was written without the hindsight of the Holocaust that would occur a few years later. I also tend to agree with some of the sentiment of the article in that he expresses that Jews should make a conscious effort to assimilate culturally in their adopted lands. That is not a particularly controversial sentiment though it may have been expressed in a more politically correct manner by todays standards. Churchill was not known for being politically correct even in his own time.
UPDATE: As it turns out, the British leader did not write the alleged article, nor did he publish it. Churchill Center responds

Let's be honest - While AIPAC is busy "lobbying" for a Strong US-Israel relationship...the greatest long-term threat to a strong US-Israel relationship is large-scale Muslim immigration to the United States. Period.
Most members of Congress don't need to be lobbied to be pro-Israel, most are pro-Israel by natural instinct, raised from birth in this great country with certain values that, among other issues, makes a pro-Israel stand the more natural position to take. This explains why many of the most pro-Israel members of congress are not Jewish and have no Jewish constituency to speak of. In truth, AIPAC is more of an organizing group than a traditional political pressure group, as it is often accused of being by it's enemies. It really is easy being a pro-Israel "lobbyist" in the United States because the wind is at your back almost all of the time.
That cozy environment can change and change quickly in the coming years. With increasing Muslim immigration, Muslim organizations hostile to Israel are popping up all over the place, some of whom have very deep pockets courtesy of Saudi Arabian petrol-dollars. Over time, these groups grow in sophistication as they learn through trial and error how to navigate the American political landscape for maximum advantage. It is only a matter of time until Muslims outnumber Jews in America, out organize and out finance Jewish organizations as well. What then?
There are many nuances to this complicated subject, but to make a long story short. One of the most important issues that should be on AIPAC's agenda, if only for the sake of self preservation, should be to lobby our government to strictly limit Muslim immigration to the United States. That will be politically difficult (not to mention politically incorrect). But it is the single most important issue for the long-term preservation of a strong US-Israel alliance, which AIPAC claims as its primary mission; and I believe that it is also in the interest of the preservation of America itself as a beakon of freedom, and leader of the free world... not to look like France 30 years from now.

Oh my! Hard-core liberals can't stand the Fox News Channel. Passing a television that's tuned to the conservative favorite forces many of them to close their eyes, cover their ears and scream, "La la la la la la la la la!" Then they dash to their computers and fire off 2,500 e-mails condemning the outlet, none of which are ever read.
But liberals' aversion to Fox News has finally gone over the top. The Nevada Democratic Party had agreed to let the right-tilting network co-sponsor, of all things, an August debate in Reno between Democratic presidential candidates. Party officials were serious about drawing national attention to the state's January presidential caucus, the country's second in the 2008 nominating process. What better way for the party to reach conservative and "values" voters who might consider changing allegiances?
But the socialist, Web-addicted wing of the Democratic Party was apoplectic. The prospect of having to watch Fox News to see their own candidates would have been torture in itself. So they set the blogosphere aflame with efforts to kill the broadcast arrangement, or at least have all the candidates pull out of the event. Before Friday, the opportunistic John Edwards was the only candidate to jump on that bandwagon.
You'd think the deal called for having Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter mock the candidates between comments. No, even unfiltered, unedited, live debate between loyal Democrats couldn't be entrusted to Fox News.
The approach of outfits such as MoveOn.org is so juvenile it's laughable. Imagine if every political organization created litmus tests for news organizations before agreeing to appear on their programming. Republicans would have boycotted PBS, CBS, NBC, ABC, National Public Radio and The Associated Press decades ago.
This hyperventilation results from the fact that far-left Democrats have no comparable media outlet, nor any widespread national appeal, for their radical views in favor of heavy-handed regulation, wealth redistribution, diplomatic capitulation and economic protectionism. So they attack their rivals' messenger with a reckless barrage of rhetoric that cuts down their own allies with friendly fire.
By Friday, the Nevada Democratic Party caved in to the lunatic fringe and began seeking a more "appropriate" television partner.
Comedy Central, perhaps?
UPDATE: Anyway, it turns out that the Dems are backing out of the Fox News debate because of (read excuse) a Joke that Roger Ailes made at the RTNDF Dinner where he received the 2007 'First Amendment Leadership Award'. Ailes delivered a number of jokes, as we covered in a post below yesterday, the joke that got the dems all worked up was this one:
And it is true that Barack Obama is on the move. I don't know if it's true that President Bush called Musharraf and said, 'Why can't we catch this guy?'A little jab playing off of Obama's name which is similar to Osama (for the more dense among us). For this, the Dems break a contract and declare war on Fox News. We report, you decide.

Chris Matthews, stud-muffin extraordinaire...expert in all things sexual... keeping it real...keeping his wife very very busy.
Wow! How do I answer the Matthews challenge? If I deny it, am I a perv? Seriously, I thought I liked sex as much as the next guy, but maybe I need to step it up a notch now that Matthews has brought to my attention this deficiency, that as a "conservative", I likely suffer from.
A reader brought this graphic to my attention, is this wrong? Click on Image to enlarge.
Fox News Channel chairman Roger Ailes accepted the RTNDF's 2007 First Amendment Leadership Award last night. He delivered some funny lines that I thought I would share a few. You can read about he entier evening over at Media Bistro.

It is true that just in the last two weeks Hillary Clinton has had over 200 phone calls telling her in order to win the presidency she must stay on the road for the next two years. It is not true they were all from Bill.
And it is true that Barack Obama is on the move. I don't know if it's true that President Bush called Musharraf and said, 'Why can't we catch this guy?'
This is a fascinating conversation between Democrat Rep. David Obey, and nut-job libs who approach him in the hallway outside his office. Notice how the ambush seems planned and how they approach him under false pretenses, hooking him in by expressing concern for the health of a soldier (the unidentified woman claims to be the soldiers mom)... and slowly changes to her real intentions; defunding the war. Notice how Obey slowly realizes that he's been ambushed by folks that are even to the left of him, and the conversation deteriorates into an argument and even shouting as the libs do what they do best: Speak out of their proverbial....

This little clip has been circulating around the net for a few weeks now, but it is worth viewing more than once. Notice the group-think mentality, the deep passion mixed with shallow thought. These folks literally lined up to ban water without questioning, as an automatic reflex. All the petitioner had to do was engage them in "enviro-speak," and the rest just flowed like a river. These folks are just as scary as those yahoo's who joined Borat in singing "throw the Jews down the well."

The Washington Post reports today that Iranian General Ali Rez Asgari's disappearance was orchestrated by Israel. General Asgari served in the Iranian government until early 2005 under then-President Mohammad Khatami. Asgari's background suggests that he would have deep knowledge of Iran's national security infrastructure, conventional weapons arsenal and ties to Hezbollah in south Lebanon. Former Mossad director Danny Yatom, who is now a member of Israel's parliament, said "He is very high-caliber, he held a very, very senior position for many long years in Lebanon. He was in effect commander of the Revolutionary Guards" there.
Ram Igra, a former Mossad officer, said Asgari spent much of the 1980s and 1990s overseeing Iran's efforts to support, finance, arm and train Hezbollah. The State Department lists the Shiite Lebanese group as a terrorist organization.
"He lived in Lebanon and, in effect, was the man who built, promoted and founded Hezbollah in those years," Igra told Israeli state radio. "If he has something to give the West, it is in this context of terrorism and Hezbollah's network in Lebanon."

Guess who wrote this killer column on the Scooter Libby fiasco. Read the language and then, make your assessment, and then link to the writer at the bottom. I don't want to prejudice this very strong piece.
Lewis Libby has now been found guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice for lies that had absolutely no legal consequence. The writer
It was not a crime to reveal Valerie Plame's name because she was not a covert agent. If it had been a crime, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald could have wrapped up his investigation with an indictment of the State Department's Richard Armitage on the first day of his investigation since it was Armitage who revealed her name and Fitzgerald knew it.
With no crime to investigate, Fitzgerald pursued a pointless investigation into nothing, getting a lot of White House officials to make statements under oath and hoping some of their recollections would end up conflicting with other witness recollections, so he could charge some Republican with "perjury" and enjoy the fawning media attention.
As a result, Libby is now a convicted felon for having a faulty memory of the person who first told him that Joe Wilson (news, bio, voting record) was a delusional boob who lied about his wife sending him to Niger.
This makes it official: It's illegal to be Republican.
Since Teddy Kennedy walked away from a dead girl with only a wrist slap (which was knocked down to a mild talking-to, plus time served: zero), Democrats have apparently become a protected class in America, immune from criminal prosecution no matter what they do.
As a result, Democrats have run wild, accepting bribes, destroying classified information, lying under oath, molesting interns, driving under the influence, obstructing justice and engaging in sex with underage girls, among other things.
Meanwhile, conservatives of any importance constantly have to spend millions of dollars defending themselves from utterly frivolous criminal prosecutions. Everything is illegal, but only Republicans get prosecuted.
Conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh was subjected to a three-year criminal investigation for allegedly buying prescription drugs illegally to treat chronic back pain. Despite the witch-hunt, Democrat prosecutor Barry E. Krischer never turned up a crime.
Even if he had, to quote liberal Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz: "Generally, people who illegally buy prescription drugs are not prosecuted." Unless they're Republicans.
The vindictive prosecution of Limbaugh finally ended last year with a plea bargain in which Limbaugh did not admit guilt. Gosh, don't you feel safer now? I know I do.
In another prescription drug case with a different result, last year, Rep. Patrick Kennedy (news, bio, voting record) (Democrat), apparently high as a kite on prescription drugs, crashed a car on Capitol Hill at 3 a.m. That's abuse of prescription drugs (BEGIN ITAS)plus a DUI offense. Result: no charges whatsoever and one day of press on Fox News Channel.
I suppose one could argue those were different jurisdictions. How about the same jurisdiction?
In 2006, Democrat and major Clinton contributor Jeffrey Epstein was nabbed in Palm Beach in a massive police investigation into his hiring of local underage schoolgirls for sex, which I'm told used to be a violation of some kind of statute in the Palm Beach area.
The police presented Limbaugh prosecutor Krischer with boatloads of evidence, including the videotaped statements of five of Epstein's alleged victims, the procurer of the girls for Epstein and 16 other witnesses.
But the same prosecutor who spent three years maniacally investigating Limbaugh's alleged misuse of back-pain pills refused to bring statutory rape charges against a Clinton contributor. Enraging the police, who had spent months on the investigation, Krischer let Epstein off after a few hours on a single count of solicitation of prostitution. The Clinton supporter walked, and his victims were branded as whores.
The Republican former House Whip Tom DeLay is currently under indictment for a minor campaign finance violation. Democratic prosecutor Ronnie Earle had to empanel six grand juries before he could find one to indict DeLay on these pathetic charges -- and this is in Austin, Texas (the Upper West Side with better-looking people).
That final grand jury was so eager to indict DeLay that it indicted him on one charge that was not even a crime -- and which has since been tossed out by the courts.
After winning his primary despite the indictment, DeLay decided to withdraw from the race rather than campaign under a cloud of suspicion, and Republicans lost one of their strongest champions in Congress.
Compare DeLay's case with that of Rep. William "The Refrigerator" Jefferson, Democrat. Two years ago, an FBI investigation caught Jefferson on videotape taking $100,000 in bribe money. When the FBI searched Jefferson's house, they found $90,000 in cash stuffed in his freezer. Two people have already pleaded guilty to paying Jefferson the bribe money.
Two years later, Bush's Justice Department still has taken no action against Jefferson. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) recently put Rep. William Jefferson (news, bio, voting record) on the Homeland Security Committee.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record), Democrat, engaged in a complicated land swindle, buying a parcel of land for $400,000 and selling it for over $1 million a few years later. (At least it wasn't cattle futures!)
Reid also received more than four times as much money from Jack Abramoff (nearly $70,000) as Tom DeLay ($15,000). DeLay returned the money; Reid refuses to do so. Why should he? He's a Democrat.
Former Clinton national security adviser Sandy Berger literally received a sentence of community service for stuffing classified national security documents in his pants and then destroying them -- big, fat federal felonies.
But Scooter Libby is facing real prison time for forgetting who told him about some bozo's wife.
Bill Clinton was not even prosecuted for obstruction of justice offenses so egregious that the entire Supreme Court staged a historic boycott of his State of the Union address in 2000.
By contrast, Linda Tripp, whose only mistake was befriending the office hosebag and then declining to perjure herself, spent millions on lawyers to defend a harassment prosecution based on far-fetched interpretations of state wiretapping laws.
Liberal law professors currently warning about the "high price" of pursuing terrorists under the Patriot Act had nothing but blood lust for Tripp one year after Clinton was impeached (Steven Lubet, "Linda Tripp Deserves to be Prosecuted," New York Times, 8/25/99).
Criminal prosecution is a surrogate for political warfare, but in this war, Republicans are gutless appeasers.
Bush has got to pardon Libby.
While I am not a big fan of Mr. Novak, he hits the nail on the head with this great article about this issue in which he played a substantial role: The Lost Scandal
A great, thought provoking piece by George Will: Three Good Options for The Right
This article from Editor and Publisher, hardly a "right-wing" mouth-piece, reveals stunning conflicts of interests by the Libby Jury spokesperson. American justice at work. Even a fair minded liberal is going to have to ask WTF?:
NEW YORK Denis Collins, the juror in the Libby/CIA leak case who delivered a post-verdict commentary for the press, spent about a decade at The Washington Post. Today, after a night on cable TV shows, he re-appears with a massive recounting of his experience at the Huffington Post blog.
His story is billed as "INSIDE THE JURY ROOM: WHAT THE JURY THOUGHT, DAY BY DAY, WITNESS BY WITNESS, AT THE SCOOTER LIBBY TRIAL" by Denis Collins, Juror #9. It calls it "unedited" impressions, memories and facts. Other jurors' names are changed.
The New York Times today reports that he is a registered Democrat. He recalls that he revealed when considered for the jury that he had worked with Bob Woodward for three or four years and also with the Post's Walter Pincus, another witness at the trial. Until a year ago, Tim Russert was a neighbor and he even attended backyard barbeques at Russert's place. But attorneys at both tables merely offered "ain't this a small town" grins, he relates.
One of the lawyers asked him the subject of his 2005 book. "You wrote about the CIA?" Collins said yes, which along with his reporting connections amounted to the "perfect storm." He comments: "Yet here I am," on the CIA leak case jury.
He says that he felt he had "absolutely no chance to be selected" for the jury and may have even bet someone $1000 that he would not be.
He adds that he went to grade school with the Times' Maureen Dowd, who allegedly had a crush on Collins' brother. He later recommended to Bob Woodward that the Post hire her away from the old Washington Star, but he disagreed.
New York Times reporter John Tierney came to Collins' wedding and "in a red, lounge-lizard coat with fake velvet collar, recited 'Feelings' into a hand held microphone." Collins knew Mike Isikoff, now at Newsweek -- and co-author of the recent book partly about the case, "Hubris" -- when both were at the Post, and Isikoff once stayed with Collins in San Francisco.
Collins goes through witness by witness and offers opinions on the attorneys and the judge, and other jurors. He says most jurors considered Ari Fleischer "Slick Willie" and not believable. "I wondered if Libby's attorneys advised him to keep out of the sun, to emphasize the 'tireless worker for the public good' look," he recalls.
On Judith Miller: "The defense was so aggressive in attacking Miller's memory, it created sympathy among the jurors." One juror commented: "She was the most stressed-out witness, but had no motive to lie."
More: "As celebrities go, the jury favorite seems to be NPR’s Nina Totenberg. Everyday Nina."
He also writes about "the Runaway Juror" who was later bounced off the case: "She broke the first rule by flashing another juror a page in her notebook during court testimony. Fortunately the message, 'Look at that eye candy in the third row!' wasn't top secret stuff."
Yesterday, E&P published the first full report on Collins' background at The Washington Post, where he covered both metro news and sports, and spent time on the copy desk, according to editors at the paper.
The longtime journalist, 57, who has also written for The Miami Herald and the San Jose Mercury New, was recalled as smart,
hardworking and energetic, although not always "coloring within the lines."
The jury convicted Lewis "Scooter" Libby, the former chief aide to Vice President Cheney, on four of five counts today, including perjury and obstruction of justice. Collins, whose identity was not known until today, came out of the courthouse and spoke to the press, saying that as a former reporter he felt this was the right thing to do.
Cable TV news commentators noted the irony of a former reporter becoming chief jury spokesman -- at least today -- in a trial where reporters played such a central role. Some also wondered how someone who had written a book on spying (including the CIA variety) had made it on this jury.
In the jury selection phase, before Collins name came out, he was identified as having worked with Bob Woodward at the Post and being a neighbor of NBC's Tim Russert. Both would later testify in the case.
"Every experience I had with Denis was absolutely positive and professional, a delightful person," recalled George Solomon, the former sports editor who retired in 2003 after 28 years at the Post. "Very flexible, willing to do
whatever it took to do the job."
A review of Post archives finds hundreds of stories by Collins dating back to the early 1980s, with many related to sports, but others involving travel, karate, Nerfball, a profile of comedian Bob Goldthwait, and a wide array of other subjects.
Solomon said Colllins was most interested in the outdoors beat, which he took over on occasion, although he also covered baseball and football. "His greatest interest was covering hiking and camping and running rather than the standard hunting and fishing fare," Solomon said.
Tom Wilkinson, a post assistant managing editor who has been at the paper since 1969, called Collins enthusiastic, and "not always coloring within the lines, which is okay...I remember him being a pretty good reporter, an independent guy," Wilkinson added. "He had his own sense of what stories are, occasionally hard to reel in."
Amazon.com lists at least two recent books by Collins, "Nora's Army," about a Bonus camp in 1932 Washington, D.C.; and "SPYING: The Secret History of History."
Asked if he would want Collins on his jury, Solomon said, "There are a lot of people who worked for me I would not want to decide my fate." But he then added, "he is a reasonable, smart and fair guy. Who else would you want on a jury?"
Later, on Larry King's CNN show, Collins said he would write about the trial, but "I'm not sure of format or where it will be." He added that he "never expected to be accepted to serve on the jury." He also admitted he was not "one of the lions" on the jury.
Fox News host John Gibson expressed surprise today that the defense allowed 1) a reporter and 2) someone who has written about the CIA, to be on this particular case.

What kind of legal system would convict a husband and father, possibly to 30 years in prison who has served this country honorably for years, for "misrepresenting" facts (intentionally or unintentionally) that could only be ascertained through memory, in an investigation of a non-crime. What kind of disgusting human being would celebrate such a travesty? What kind of legal system punishes a man for failing to get his memory straight on a non-crime but would look the other way as a cold-blooded murderer like OJ Simpson is playing golf? What kind of legal system would look the other way as a former national Security Advisor is caught red-handed stuffing top secret documents down his pants and underwear and walking out the building, while convicting a man, possibly to 30 years, for "lying" about a non-crime. The sickness never ends
