Vital Perspective Scoop: Draft Statement on Iran to Security Council Being Circulated at IAEA

As Secretary of State Condi Rice described as the number one challenge to the free world, Vital Perspective, known to have solid diplomatic contacts delivers the scoop that a Draft Statement on Iran to Security Council is currently Being Circulated at .

The draft includes a trigger of 14 days to comply, after which Iran could face further action under Chapter 7 of the Security Council - i.e. sanctions. This is obviously still in negotiations, as the Russians and Chinese will more than likely not be agreeable to certain terms.

The draft being circulated includes: "Call upon Iran immediately: to re-establish full, sustained and verifiable suspension of all enrichment related and reprocessing activities, including research and development, to be verified by the IAEA, and specifically including the manufacture and import of gas centrifuges and their components, the assembly, installation, testing or operation of gas centrifuges, work to undertake any plutonium separation or to construct or operate any plutonium separation installation, and all tests or production at any uranium conversion installation; to halt the construction of a heavy water reactor; to act in accordance with, ratify promptly and implement in full the Additional Protocol; and to implement transparency measures, as requested by the Director General, which extend beyond the formal requirements of the Safeguards Agreement and Additional Protocol, and include such access to individuals, documentation relating to procurement, dual use equipment, certain military-owned workshops and research investigations."

Predictable: Dubai Ports Deal Dead: Ordeal Exposes Arrogance By Some

Following a meeting between President and Congressional leaders this morning in which GOP representatives made clear to the President that despite his silly veto threat, the Republican led US Congress was prepared to kill the deal in overwhelming numbers, far more than would be needed to override any Presidential veto. After this “clarification,” sombody clearly got on the phone with sombody and the Dubai company “suddenly” decided to sell off the US portion of the deal to a US company, thus neutralizing the entire issue (at least for the moment).

All of this is good news. Unfortunately, this issue has exposed a number ugly truths: Some Republicans displayed a level of arrogance and elitism normally associated with Liberal Democrats throughout this entire ordeal: Despite the fact that every poll showed the American public to be overwhelmingly disgusted by this deal, some on our side presented the opposition to it as “bigotry” or “ignorance,” thus falling into the trap of calling most average Americans bigots and stupid. Fred Barnes at the Weekly Standard (whom the Neocon usually admires), and Grover Norquist, (whom the Neocon holds in low esteem) are two examples of conservatives displaying an arrogant elitism on this entire matter.
Americans were and are correct in their suspicion of the , despite their fancy hotels and the Johnny-come-lately (post 9/11) assistance in the war on terror. It was only a few years ago that this country was allied with the Taliban in Afghanistan, facilitated Al Queda financial transactions, was a way-station for nuclear material to Iran, home to one of the 9/11 hijackers, etc..etc…The Country still boycotts Israel and was highlighted in the US State Departments Report of Countries that violate Human Rights…JUST YESTERDAY! Good lord, talk about being tone deaf. Yeah, let them run the ports, the Coast Guard will take care of security, don't you worry about a thing...

Media Refuse to Call UNC Incident "Terrorisim"

Editorial of the Day: Tony Blankley, Washington Times:

"Neither the university nor most of the media has been willing to characterize this event as a terrorist attempt by a radical Muslim. Mr. Colmes, on "Hannity and Colmes" seemed to express genuine puzzlement as to why it mattered whether we called it that or merely an act of violence. Similarly, the attack at the Los Angeles International Airport a few years ago was for nine months just called a violent attack, before it was finally characterized by police as a radical Muslim act of terrorism."

The Neocon is Pleased to Introduce Sharon Stone to... Mariam Farhat:

Sharon Stone arrived in the today to dispense some "wisdom" on the natives. She was the guest of the starry-eyed and perpetually naive Shimon Peres (the Jimmy Carter of Israel), who organized the "woman" festival. Ms. Stone said "It's time for women to be part of negotiations, because they have a different language: "Imagine 'I was considering going to war, let's discuss, let's consider the other angles.'" Wow! Hollywood-deep!

Perhaps we should introduce Ms. Stone to Mariam Farhat
She's a "woman" who was recently elected to the Palestinian parliament. She's also in her spare time famous for being "The Mother From Hell" of three suicide bombers (pictured in the poster behind her), who blew themselves up and killed dozens of innocent civilians, and is openly praying for more sons to blow themselves up in crowded discos and Pizza restaurants. Perhaps Ms. Stone can say to her "let's discuss, let's consider the other angles..." It is not known wheather Ms. Farhat has been invited to the Womans Festival. Maybe it's just me.

MEANWHILE BACK ON EARTH, US HOUSE TO VOTE ON PORTS: Showdown With President Likely

The Neocon Express found it difficult to get worked up over the Dubai port issue one way or the other, that is until the President and a few of his supporters loudly announced that anyone opposing this deal is a bigot. That tactic has, in my judgment backfired in a big way, including with the Neocon. Congressional leaders should immediately move to put the breaks on this deal. Let the President veto the bill as he has so publicly promised, and then let that woefully misguided veto be overturned by vast majorities from both parties. The Neocon is generally a strong supporter of the President; however, on a number of occasions, such as the Harriet Myers nomination, he has strayed down strange paths.

Prince Philip: "We Were Jealous of Jews"

In a fascinating article in the Daily Mail, Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth the II broke the long silence about his family’s link to the Nazis, the Royals attitudes towards and other sensitive subjects that have long been the subject of discussion and speculation. The Neocon found Prince Philip’s straightforward honesty refreshing and an important contribution to the historical record, as his generation slowly fades away.

Rasmussen Polling: Dubai Port Deal Devastating to GOP. Massive Political Damage Already Inflicted

As the Neocon has predicted, first Fox News and now Rasmussen report the President has made a devastating political mistake (if not security mistake) by enthusiastically supporting the Dubai port deal, backed up by a redicules threat of Veto. That mistake was greatly amplified as the President and some of his more misguided supporters, like Grover Norquist, publicly suggested that opposition to the deal was motivated by anti-Arab bigotry. That approach has only served to insult and antagonize a large segment of the President's own base, such as the Neocon Express and many more. The Dymanics here are such, that ironically, should the President prevail, he, and by extension the GOP will be the big losers.
Rasmussen, who is generally friendly to the GOP and a straight shooter; noted that there was nothing the Democrats could have done to "change the basic dynamics" of the national security issue. Their one and only hope was to wait for a mistake by the Bush team--a hope that was realized in a huge way when the Dubai Ports story erupted on the national scene, and particularly the administrations reaction to it.

"Our first survey on the topic found that the public opposed the Administration's decision on the ports issue by a 64% to 17% margin. For the first time ever--voters preferred Democrats in Congress over the President on national security. To put this into perspective, consider the 2002 election. That year, the President's position on national was so solid that his party regained control of the Senate at a time when just 23% of Americans rated the economy as good or excellent. Two years later, 51% of Americans thought the U.S. and its allies were winning the War on Terror and the President was re-elected with 51% of the vote.

Republicans cannot retain control of Congress following November's election if the Democrats are competitive on national security issues."

The University of Virginia's Larry Sabato summarized the situation succinctly for us--"Since 9/11, Bush's consistent political advantage has been the public's confidence in him to handle the terrorist threat. The Iraq War has weakened Bush's edge, and now the Dubai ports misstep may destroy it. This has become a troubled and tone-deaf Presidency."

It's important to note that the Dubai Ports story is far more significant politically than the issue itself. That's because it gives people an opportunity to re-evaluate the President on a whole range of issues relating to national security.

Of course, there are still nine months to Election Day and a lot can happen...the Dubai ports issue has provided a rallying point; and, the President has lost the initiative on his signature issue.

"Unless the President can re-establish dominance on the national security issue, the opportunity for George W. to leave behind a Generation will disappear." THAT IS WHAT IS AT STAKE MR. PRESIDENT.

Why We should fear Holland’s silence

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
By Douglas Murray,
Author of Neoconservatism: Why We Need It

"... the story of — which I have been charting for some years — should be noted by her allies. Where Holland has gone, and the rest of are following. The silencing happens bit by bit. A student paper in Britain that ran the Danish cartoons got pulped. A London magazine withdrew the cartoons from its website after the British police informed the editor they could not protect him, his staff, or his offices from attack. This happened only days before the police provided 500 officers to protect a “peaceful” protest in Trafalgar Square.

It seems the British police — who regularly provide protection for mosques (as they did after the 7/7 bombs) — were unable to send even one policeman to protect an organ of free speech. At the notorious London protests, were allowed to incite murder and bloodshed on the streets, but a passer-by objecting to these displays was threatened with detention for making trouble.

What pasess as "free expresion" in todays Holland.

Holland — with its disproportionately high Muslim population — is the canary in the mine. Its once open society is closing, and Europe is closing slowly behind it. It looks, from Holland, like the twilight of liberalism — not the “liberalism” that is actually libertarianism, but the liberalism that is freedom. Not least freedom of expression. All across Europe, debate on Islam is being stopped...

Theo Van Gogh Murdered in broad daylight

Since the assassinations of Fortuyn and, in 2004, the film maker Theo van Gogh, numerous public figures in Holland have received death threats and routine intimidation. The heroic Somali-born Dutch MP Ayaan Hirsi Ali and her equally outspoken colleague Geert Wilders live under constant police protection, often forced to sleep on army bases. Even university professors are under protection.

Van Gogh's Murderer

Europe is shuffling into darkness. It is proving incapable of standing up to its enemies, and in an effort to accommodate the peripheral rights of a minority is failing to protect the most basic rights of its own people.

The governments of Europe have been tricked into believing that criticism of a belief is the same thing as criticism of a race. And so it is becoming increasingly difficult and dangerous to criticise a growing and powerful ideology within our midst. It may soon, in addition, be made illegal.

As I left the Netherlands I once again felt terrible sorrow for a country that is slowly being lost. A society which should be carefree and inspiring has become dark and worried. The in Europe is winning. And Holland, and our continent, takes one step further into a dark and menacing future."

But at least it was for domestic consumption, an internal affair of only marginal interest to other countries. ``'' however, is meant for export, carrying the most vicious and pernicious mendacities about America to a receptive world. Most liberalism is angst- and guilt-ridden, seeing moral equivalence everywhere. ``Syriana'' is of a different species entirely -- a pathological variety that burns with the certainty of its malign anti-Americanism. The Neocon Smell's Grover Norquist's Hand in Port Affair

Eleven years ago I was invited to one of Wednesday morning pow-wow’s in Washington. At the time I was the Campaign Manager for Proposition 209, an initiative to outlaw racial preferences in California (which ultimately won at the ballot box). Many conservative activists sat around the table and each discussed the details of his or her endeavor to further the cause of conservatism. At one point the Pakistani Ambassador entered the room, Norquist introduced her and asked her to speak. At the time, the US had just cancelled the sale of F16’s to Pakistan because of their nuclear activity and the Ambassador asked for the assistance of the group to allow the sale to go forward or to reimburse her country.

I remember at the time thinking, why the hell did Grover Norquist invite the Pakistani Ambassador to a closed door meeting of conservatives to request that we lobby against the actions of the US Government? A few years later I got my answer: Norquist is basically the front-man for Wahabi Islamists and radical Arab interests in the United States. He established the Islamic Institute, married a Palestinian “activist” and has been quietly pushing for Islamists access to the White House and other corridors of power in Washington for years, including organizations with known terrorist ties such as the Hollyland Foundation, a Hamas fundraising front group shut down by the FBI. It’s really a remarkable tale.

Now Grover Norquist has come out swinging for the Dubai Port deal, calling all those who oppose it “registered bigots.” As you will see below, this man has a long record using these types of lowly tactics. It will be very interesting to learn what roll if any Norquist played in facilitating this port deal.

A few years ago, Norquist was involved in a spat with well respected national security expert Frank of the Center for Security Policy. Mr. Gaffney’s observations about Norquist are very revealing and deserve a second look in light of this port deal and who the supporters and possible movers on this deal are. Gaffney was the first to declare Norquist a "grave threat" to the Bush Presidency, Could it be that his declaration is now proving acurate.
Joe Gelman

Frank Gaffney warns Islamist 'enabler' Norquist threatens 'grave harm to presidency,

Norquist's group took seed money from an avowed supporter of Hezbollah, the terrorist group that killed 241 US Marines in a 1983 Beirut bombing.
A prominent conservative leader who allegedly has used undeclared foreign money and top political connections to promote terrorist sympathizers is an 'enabler' who threatens 'to do grave harm to the Bush presidency.'

Center for Security Policy President Frank Gaffney issued the warning in a letter to Grover Norquist, founding chairman of the Islamic Institute, after Norquist publicly accused Gaffney of 'racism and bigotry' and banished him from a weekly strategy group. Norquist's actions came in response to Gaffney's criticism of a White House official who allowed pro-terrorist Muslim groups access to the White House complex on January 16.

'People who afford terrorist-supporters or -apologists and their organizations entree into the White House deserve to be both challenged and criticized,' Gaffney wrote in response. Norquist, an anti-tax activist and Washington networker who often purports to speak in the name of President Bush, told Gaffney in a widely distributed letter that the Center for Security Policy leader was guilty of 'racial prejudice, religous bigotry or ethnic hatred' because the criticized official is a Muslim.

In response, Gaffney and American Conservative Union leader David Keene slammed Norquist for 'employing "Stalinist tactics" against those who disagree with Mr. Norquist's role in brokering access to the Bush White House,' the Washington Times reported on February 7.

Norquist has been criticized for promoting what is called the Wahhabi lobby, a Saudi-funded network designed to dominate and radicalize Islam in America, at the expense of other Muslim groups whose stand against terrorism is unequivocal.

'Why have you gone to such lengths to defend - to say nothing of legitimize and advance the agendas of - terrorist sympathizers and others hostile to everything for which American conservatives stand?' Gaffney asked Norquist in a responding letter. Gaffney listed his concerns:

* The Islamic Institute, which Norquist co-founded and houses in his Americans for Tax Reform office, received seed money from an avowed supporter of Hezbollah, the terrorist group that killed 241 US Marines in a 1983 suicide bomb attack.

* The Islamic Institute reportedly is 'predominantly funded by foreign governments, shady Saudi sources, and US-based groups raided by the Treasury Department-led Operation Green Quest Task Force for allegedly funding suicide bombers, al Qaeda and other terrorists' activities.'

* Norquist led conservative opposition to parts of the Bush administration's anti-terrorism legislation, without disclosing that his Islamic group was dependent on such funds.

* Norquist has affiliated himself with the radical National Committee to Protect Political Freedom (NCPPF), from which he received an award shortly before the September 11, 2001 attacks, despite the group's thirty-year public track record of promoting domestic and international terrorism.

* Norquist reportedly introduced Sami Al-Arian, whom federal law enforcement officials say is a leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, to then-candidate George W. Bush during the 2000 campaign. Televised videotape shows Al-Arian raising money in the US for terrorists.

Center's Gaffney urges rejection of U.A.E. management of U.S. ports

FOX NEWS: 69% of Americans Oppose Dubai Port Deal Even After Learning "The Facts." Huge Damage to GOP

Karl Rove announed that National Security will be the big issue of 2006 and events are proving him correct, only not in the way he expected:
As a direct result of the Dubai Port deal, most Americans now view Democrats as having the edge on National Security related issues. According to Fox News; "by wide margins voters now think it would be better for the country if Democrats win control of Congress in this year’s midterm election." 69% of Americans oppose the port deal even after learning of the "details." The Presidents numbers have droped like a stone to 39%...and still dropping. Baring an unforeseen development, the Dubai port issue could be shaping up as the biggest political debacle in memory for the GOP.

The President's embarrassing threat of a veto (his only veto ever threatened) was a monumental miscalculation bordering on the bizarre. That the President would be so emphatic and publicly indignant about this one particular issue, when there are so many more important issues during these critical times to be threatening a veto on, only served to highlight the enormity of the misjudgment.

To ad insult to injury and digging themselves a deeper hole, the President and some of his supporters then engaged in Al Sharpton-like, last-refuge-of-a-scoundrel behavior by portraying the opponents of the deal as "intolerant" or even "racists" towards Arabs, and "Islamaphobic." This was the last straw.

The Neocon has supported the President through thick and thin. If the President wishes to commit political suicide on his own, well fine. The problem is that he is taking the rest of the movement over the cliff with him on an issue that is not worth even a tiny fraction of the lost political capital already suffered. The Neocon urges fellow Republicans to jump ship on this issue and hope for the best. If the President wishes to go down with the ship, hopefully most Republicans will at least have a life raft to survive this mess.

Administration: Arabs at US Ports OK, Jews On US Computers Bad!

The Neocon is on record as opposing the Dubai deal for many reasons that have been spelled out all over the media and internet. The despicable (normally liberal) tactic used by some conservatives now to portray opposition to the deal as “anti-Arab bigotry” is an unforgivable, pathetic tactic, straight out of Al Sharpton’s race-pimping playbook and they should be ashamed of themselves. The Neocon is particularly disappointed in the Weekly Standard who seemed over-eager to suck up to the administration on this one. Furthermore, the Neocon believes that a certain level of "fear" of is not unreasonable or islamophobic (Phobic being an "irrational fear" as opposed to rational) it's what most Americans would call common sense given what is occuring in the real world today.

But all this begs the question: Is it not acceptable now to accuse the Administration of Anti-Semitism because of the administrations review/investigation of an high-tech firm’s purchase of an American software company? This Israeli-US high-tech deal is being held up by the same panel; at the same time they were quick to approve the Arab-port deal. Is this government sponsored Anti-Semitism at work? My guess is that it is not, and for the Neocon to accuse the Administration of Anti-Semitism over the Israeli-US deal would be a despicable leap. So why is it OK for administration spokesmen and supporters to wave the Islamophobia flag on the Dubai-port deal?

OK, so let the supporters of this port deal wave the Islamophobia flag, and they can also watch the American people hold both them and this deal in contempt, and they can also watch the President's poll number tank even further (38%). The Neocon is a strong supporter of the President and is very frustrated over this incredible miscalculation.

"SHOCKING": "Bush Warned Before Katrina Hit.”

It must be a slow news day when the AP manufactures the “sensational headline”: “Bush Was Warned Before Katrina Hit!” He was? …Really? I…I thought Katrina hit out of the clear blue sky so to speak as an act of nature, but now I’m told that President Bush knew about Katrina a few days in advance and covered it up! And then I remember…oh yeah…oh no… I was also told in advance that Katrina was coming, and not only that I was also aware in advance that the New Orleans flood control system could collapse if it sustained a category 3 or above hurricane. I even saw secret satellite photos of Katrina approaching on my TV set, and I read about all of this in the papers and on the internet BEFORE Katrina hit and I kept the information to myself! Now that we know that Bush was "informed" of Katrina in advance, why did Bush fail to magically stop the Hurricane when he could have? And even though a full evacuation order was issued, why did Bush personally fail to evacuate all the citizens who chose to stay? And why did Bush not fix all the hundreds of miles of dykes in the hours leading up to Katrina? These are the tough issues that will be hammered out in the main stream media and the left side of the bloggospher. maybe it's just me.

Stunning Interview: Arab-American, Dr. Wafa Sultan, At Great Personal Risk, Slams Islamic Radicalisim on Al Jazeera

THE NEOCON HERO OF THE DAY: Arab American Psychologist, Dr. Wafa Sultan delivered one of the most remarkable statements on the "clash of civilizations" that the Neocon has ever heard. The exchange took place on Al Jazeera TV in a debate with an Islamist Cleric on February 21st. Many of us have been searching far and wide for the moderate Arab who will stand up to the Islamists. Dr. Sultan should be invited to the White House and given a medal. She should replace Karen Hughes immediatly as our special envoy to Muslim Countries. Really, a remarkable woman. In Contrast: Hollywood Moonbat Cowards Prepare for Oscar

Three months after 9/11, George Clooney was asked what he wanted for Christmas. “I want,” he said, “one day when nobody is getting shot at. Call a truce for a day.”
Our own Jay Nordlinger remarked at the time that this was “a child’s response”,
correctly noting “the implied moral randomness… People are just shooting at each other, you know, and shooting at each other is bad.”

If you want stories about journalists, nobody was shooting on the day The Wall Street Journal’s Daniel Pearl had his head sawed off. If you want stories about “racial tensions”, nobody was shooting on the day British expat Ken Bigley was similarly decapitated. Hollywood’s “bravery” is an almost pathological retreat: it’s against segregated drinking fountains in Alabama and blacklisting writers on 1950s variety shows. It’s in danger of becoming an oldies station with only three records.

I noticed the other day that Nigeria now has the third biggest film industry in the world, after Hollywood and Bollywood. In the showbiz capital of West Africa, you can make a feature for 40,000 bucks. What talk radio did to network news and the Internet is doing to monopoly newspapers, someone will eventually do to the big studios, and one day we may wind up with a Hollywood in which, as Clooney might say, nothing is getting shot. In the meantime, Danish cartoonists are in hiding for their lives but George Clooney will be televised around the world picking up an award for his bravery.
