Coincidence? Man in Isolation with rare form of TB is the Son in Law of a leading TB Researcher at the CDC...
Out of the 300,000,000 people in the United States, the man with a rare form of TB, Andrew Speaker, is the son-in-law of Dr. Robert Cooksey, a leading microbiologist in the CDC's Division of Tuberculosis Elimination. Coincidence? You make the call. I personally find it hard to believe that there is absolutely no connection. I would like to know what the mathematical odds of such a coincidence would be. I suppose it's possible, but wow...
In the meantime, patient Andrew Speaker gave an exclusive interview to Diane Sawyer over at GMC. The image is of Andrew Speaker and his new wife Sara who is presumably the daughter of Dr. Cooksey of the CDC. As the world turn...this story just keeps on giving.
Follow-up: A quick question; if Andrew Speaker is non-symptomatic as is constantly being repeated in the media, how did he know to go to a doctor to get himself tested for TB? I mean a normal person doesn't just go to a doctor to get tested for TB out of the clear blue sky.

Muslim "boyfriend" Kills Hindu family in Orange County: This story is repeated somewhere in the world almost every day. Another religiously motivated killing. It's exhausting just reporting on these types of incidents, and that's why I have cut back. I just can't keep up with the daily depressing mayhem, and it's almost pointless to even try. If folks don't get this issue by now, they are beyond hope.
UK UCU Congress vote for academic boycott of Israel: Jewish lefties should understand who they are in bed with: They are in bed with Jew-hating anti-Semites who package their anti-Semitisim as "policy" disputes with Israel. Millions are oppressed and murdered around the world, from Darfur to North Korea to Cuba, but it's the Jews of tiny Israel who are the pebble in their shoe. That should tell you everything you need to know about these folks. The good news is that far more scientific innovations are coming out of Israel than out of the UK these days, and with regularity, about one third of Nobel Prizes are awarded to Jewish scientists. With this kind of boycott, UK academics may be doing more damage to themselves than to anyone else.
US Research foundation blocks new grants for Britons after UK academic boycott announced: I have a feeling this is just the beginning, with many US based foundations pulling out of the UK, which will cause further decline in the UK status as a research hub.

John Kanzius of Sanibel Island, Fla. Discovers New Energy Source
This is what America is all about, and what many foreigners have difficulty grasping. A single individual, raised in the creative environment that is the product of freedom, invents a new method to produce energy. Undoubtedly, a capitalist will soon come along and use the free market to find a way to monetize this new invention and become wealthy beyond any possible dream. Government will likely play a minimal role, or no role at all. Vision-less Liberals tend to assume that the world is static, that we are all doomed because of our current system and dependency on current technologies. Of course, this fails to take into consideration the remarkable capacity of human ingenuity, and our almost endless ability to innovate and adapt to changing circumstances. A big hats off to John Kanzius of Sanibel Island.

Eichmann's passport found in Argentina
An international mystery has been solved as Adolf Eichmann's passport was discovered in an archive in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The big question was how did Eichmann, one of Adolf Hitler's primary operatives in the execution of the Holocaust, escape to Argentina following World War II? With the discovery of the passport we now know the answer: it was the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva Switzerland who gave this mass murderer the necessary travel documents and assisted in his escaping justice. This of course opens a bunch of additional questions, not the least of which is who was this authorized by at the ICRC?

Assad Claims Victory in Syrian "Elections!"
In a shocking "upset" for the ages, Syrian President Assad claimed a razors-edge victory in the Syrian elections with 97.62% of the vote approving him for a second term. A strong 1.71 percent voted against renewing Assad's presidency for another term... their fate is not entirely clear. Syrian democracy in action! An inspiration to us all.

I've got Mail! Cheif UK Green Party Spokesman drops the Neocon a line
I received a comment from Derek Wall, chief spokesman for the Green Party in the UK. Dr. Wall directed me to a YouTube video clip in which he debated Christopher Horner, author of 'The Politically Incorrect Guild to Global Warming' on Al Jazeera. Presumably the debate took place between Jihad beheading videos and Bin Laden tapes. I actually thought that Horner made minced meat out of Wall but that's just one man's admittedly biased opinion. What I found more interesting was Dr. Walls profile on his web site. I have long argued that the "global warming" movement is not a science-based movement, but is rather more like a religion for lost souls and hard-core ideological leftists who hate capitalism and America. Refugees from the collapsed ideological swamp that was Communism. As further evidence of my contention I encourage a visit to Dr. Wall's profile where he describes his interests as...and I kid you not:
"No GM, Green Party, Green politics, organic farming, no nukes, peace, social movement theory, anti-capitalism, Mumia Abu-Jamal, Donna Warren for President, ecosocialism, Cuba, zen, socialism, Marx, and Earth First."WOW! Now I'm sure Dr. Wall is a nice guy and may be fun to have a beer with, and he certainly is entitled to his opinions unlike the regular folks in his highly admired Cuba; but I will let the reader decide about the kind of credibility Mr. Hall brings to the "global warming" issue based on his particular "interests" which parallel every comical stereotype of a 1970's fellow traveller.

McCain: Hillary and Obama Voted to Surrender to Al Qaeda; "Obama Wouldn't Know the Difference Between an RPG and a Bong"
McCain: “This vote may win favor with MoveOn and liberal primary voters, but it’s the equivalent of waving a white flag to al Qaeda.”
Obama responds: "This country is united in our support for our troops, but we also owe them a plan to relieve them of the burden of policing someone Else's civil war. Governor Romney and Senator McCain clearly believe the course we are on in Iraq is working, but I do not. And if there ever was a reflection of that it's the fact that Senator McCain required a flack jacket, ten armored Humvees, two Apache attack helicopters, and 100 soldiers with rifles by his side to stroll through a market in Baghdad just a few weeks ago."
McCain counters: "While Senator Obama's two years in the U.S. Senate certainly entitles him to vote against funding our troops, my service and experience combined with conversations with military leaders on the ground in Iraq lead me to believe that we must give this new strategy a chance to succeed because the consequences of failure would be catastrophic to our nation's security. By the way, Senator Obama, it's a 'flak' jacket, not a 'flack' jacket. There is only one of us in this argument who has ever worn the uniform. Obama wouldn't know the difference between an RPG and a bong"

Frontpage: The Fraud That is CAIR
In a devastating expose, Frontpage Magazine breaks down the CAIR membership footprint, dissects their budget and examines their performance by the numbers (as opposed to the rhetoric). I'll give you a hint; it isn't a pretty picture. A small taste:The steep decline in CAIR membership is directly correlated in membership receipts (line 3 of the Form 990), which dropped off from $119,029 in 2004 to $65,377 – a decrease of $53,652, or almost half (45 percent) of the previous year’s membership revenues. If this trend continues at the same pace, their 2006 Form 990 numbers will show $29,419 in membership revenues, representing only 1,177 members, roughly comparable to the membership of the Genealogical Society of Rockingham County, Virginia and the Garden Club of Tacoma, Washington – neither of which has a Washington DC lobbying office.
And neither of which are constantly called by the main stream media for insight as if they represent the entire Muslim community in North America.
Iran warns Israel it may be ‘uprooted’ This Summer
Ahmadinejad on Thursday warned Israel it would be "uprooted" if the Jewish state made any move against Lebanon in the coming summer.
"If you think that by bombing and assassinating Palestinian leaders you are preparing ground for new attacks on Lebanon in the summer, I am telling you that you are seriously wrong. If this year you repeat the same mistake of the last year, the ocean of nations of the region will get angry and will uproot the Zionist regime."

Decision Time on Iran Nukes is Approaching
This is a story that is getting old, and tiring to repeat, but is clearly still the most dangerous issue on the immediate horizon. Iran Defies U.N. Security Council Demands to Stop Uranium Enrichment. Clearly Iran is marching rapidly toward the bomb and nobody is doing a thing about it. I can't imagine that George Bush will sit back and tolerate on his watch the establishment of Iran as a nuclear power. That more than anything else will determine his legacy, Iraq is a minor skirmish in comparison. The fact that the US Navy is engaging in a massive unannounced exercise off of the Iranian coast today is perhaps a hint that action will be taken to prevent the catastrophe of an Iranian bomb. And there seems to be a growing consensus that resistance to the Iranian nuclear efforts must be accelerated. French President Nilocas Sarkozy called today to tighten sanctions on Iran, and that France will join the US in its efforts to halt the Iranian march to the bomb. Sarkozy warned that if Iran attains nuclear weapons, a road to an arms race will be paved that could endanger Israel and southeast Europe, he said during an interview with a German magazine. This is truly refreshing rhetoric coming from a French leader who gets it.
On a side note, it's official, I have ended my personal boycott of France and French goods. I know it may seem silly, and I have never called on others to engage in such a boycott, but I have personally avoided all things French over the past few years. I have even avoided traveling through France on my multiple trips to Europe in the last few years (with the exception of one layover at Charles de Gaulle airport on my way to Romania last year, and I avoided purchasing even a beverage). With Sarkozy in, a new wind is blowing and French wines, cheeses and Perrier are back in at the Gelman household. Thank goodness for that.
Edwards: War on Terror is Nothing but a 'Slogan' and a 'Bumper Sticker'
In a Speech to the Foreign Relations Council moments ago, John Edwards denied the very existence of the war on terror calling it nothing but a "slogan" and a "bumper sticker". He further said that "We must avoid actions that will give terrorists an excuse to violate international law." Say what? Did I get that right? Again: Edwards announced that "We must avoid actions that will give terrorists an excuse to violate international law." This man suffers from Stockholm syndrome and needs psychological help. Perhaps his obsession with his hair has something to do with it? Good lord! I do agree that the term "war on terror" is insufficient to describe this conflict...unfortunately, Edwards denies that this is a war at all, dismissing the entire struggle with radical Islam as nothing but a government tool to control American citizens through fear. Pandering to the craziest elements of his party...this man wants to be President? Check out the video below from a few years ago:

"Refugee Camp" is the Preferred Political Term for Ignorant MSM
This is a typical headline from a mainstream media outlet (in this case MSNBC).
The media use the term "refugee camps" to describe Palestinian towns and neighborhoods in Lebanon that are currently under attack by the Lebanese army for harboring Islamic radicals; fleeing, they are now apparently refugees from their refugee camps.
Of course "refugee camp" implies that the inhabitants of these areas have been displaced by a recent conflict and are in flux. That is simply not the case with these "camps" which are in fact well built, if mostly poor neighborhoods (yes, I have visited a number of them in Lebanon). Lets be honest, There is no such thing as a 60 year old refugee camp, and the vast majority of those living in these neighborhoods were never displaced by a war. Their grandparents or great-grandparents were; they were displaced by a war 60 years ago, a war initiated by Arab leaders to destroy Israel, a war which didn’t go exactly as Arab leaders had planed. The term "refugee camp" is truly a political term that ignorant Western media have adopted without question or any historical context.
If anything, A more accurate description of these towns and neighborhoods would be poverty "prisons" (and there are such things as 60-year-old prisons). Arab countries have purposefully refused to absorb 1948 Arab refugees and the generations of their offspring, confining them to a status-less state of poverty and ignorance with no right to citizenship, in towns and neighborhoods that were quickly labeled "refugee camps" to emphasize their illegitimate status. While Israel absorbed millions of Jewish refugees from Europe and Arab states, the Arab countries have purposefully refused to do the same for hundreds of thousands of their Arab brothers who now call themselves Palestinians, including their many offspring; aliens in their own countries and to their fellow Arabs, tools to be used for political hay, breeding grounds for ignorance, extremism and hate. The Palestinians deserve much better than what they have received from their fellow Arabs. Not that they themselves are completely blameless.

Pew Research: One in four young U.S. Muslims say Suicide Bombings are Acceptable
Twenty-six percent of young Muslims living in the United States say suicide bombings in the defense of Islam can be justified, according to a major study of American Muslims released today. And only 40% of all Muslims say they believe Arabs were behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Apparently, Denial is not just a river in Egypt. 5 percent (that's one in twenty for those of you from Berkeley) of U.S. Muslims expressed favorable views of the terrorist group al Qaeda. Assuming there are about 5 million Muslims in the US, that would amount to about a quarter of a million (250,000) who have a "favorable view" of al Qaeda living in the USA. How many of these folks would be willing to act on their views is the big question. Lets assume for a moment that only 1% of those would act out their "favorable view" of al Qaeda; that means that there are potentially around 2,500 radical Muslim terrorists living in the United States. Please keep in mind that these are the responses of Muslims who live in a society where it is mostly socially unacceptable to openly admit such belief's. My bet is that the real negative numbers are much higher than these, which are distressing enough.

Kucinich, the 'Ron Paul' of the Democrats finds love...
AN Essex girl may be the first lady with a tongue stud to have set her sights on the White House. The wife of Dennis Kucinich, a left-wing Democratic congressman and 2008 presidential candidate, is a 29-year-old hippie chick from Upminster at the end of London Underground’s District line.Creepy? You make the call. Hat Tip: Say Anything. really excellent blogging over at Say Anything, I encourage a visit.
Elizabeth Kucinich, nĂ©e Harper, has been on the stump with her husband, a 60-year-old anti-war campaigner from Cleveland, Ohio, mingling with the likes of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama backstage at the Democratic presidential debates. “There’s a kind of camaraderie,” she said.
A 6ft tall willowy redhead who has been compared to Arwen Evenstar, the Lord of the Rings character, she towers over her diminutive husband. “Who cares?” she said in an interview. “I like wearing high heels so I’m used to being taller than most men I stand next to.”
Nor is she bothered by their 31-year age difference. “I have never noticed it at all,” she said. “Dennis is a very mature but young-at-heart gentleman and we complement each other.”
Kucinich met her husband-to-be two years ago when she visited his office in the House of Representatives with her boss as a volunteer worker for the American Monetary Institute, an offbeat group dedicated to reforming the “unjust monetary system”.
It was love at first sight for both of them. Immediately after their meeting, Dennis Kucinich phoned a friend and said: “I’ve met her [my future wife].”
Meanwhile, John Edwards, the-good-hair-candidate who spends $400 at the beauty salon, said today; Service should be mandatory and that all young people should serve their country, "not just poor kids who get sent to war." That's how he views our current military: "poor kids who get sent to war." Edwards then said that; "the world thinks we're a bully and we're selfish." He did not officially confirm if he agrees with that assessment. He then called on people to protest the Iraq war this Memorial Day as an act of "patriotism." Paul Morin, National Commander of the American Legion, called Edwards remarks "as inappropriate as a political bumper sticker on an Arlington headstone." It's like a freak show on Mars, I swear!

Bernard Kouchner: Sarko's surprising Pick for Foreign Minister of France
He is a medical Doctor who created Doctors Without Borders. He grew up on the left and has gradually moved to the right (like most of us Neocons), to the point where he supported the ouster of Saddam Hussein, and has now accepted a Senior position in France's new conservative government, causing him to be "expelled" from the French Socialist party even though he was never officially a member to begin with. He is perceived as Pro-American, pro-Israel, and generally considered a 'mensch' (all around good guy) with a flare for speaking his mind regardless of diplomatic niceties. In short, Bernard Koucher is a man to keep an eye on as France transforms itself from international joke, to a serious player on the world stage, and we hope to welcome him into the Neocon ranks. (OK that last comment was meant to drive lefty insane...sorry).
Like Sarkozy, Bernard Kouchner comes from a family with interesting roots. His grandparents were sent to Auschwitz where they were murdered by the Nazi's. Kouchner explains his roots this way: "My grandparents died in Auschwitz, and for years no one dared or wanted to tell me. I found out. In a mixed family that is not religious it is even worse: you are either twice as Jewish, or half Jewish. As a result, you react like a tormented soul in the face of oppression.”

A lively and fun Presidential debate on the Republican side hosted by Fox News. Giuliani did very well; Romney was far more on the defensive this time around; McCain improved; Gilmore was a bore; and the rest did well....with the exception of Ron Paul. It is mildly amusing that Paul has adopted the Al Qaeda/Move-on-dot-org interpretation for 9/11 which holds that the attack on the United States was entirely the fault of US foreign policy related to Iraq prior to 9/11. Radical Islam was never mentioned by Ron Paul. Giuliani intervened by saying he has heard many explanations for 9/11 but Paul's explanation has to be the most bizarre... and demanded the Paul take it back, which he refused to do.

The Interesting Story of Nicolas Sarkozy's Family Roots
This will be enough to drive anti-Semites, holocaust deniers, Islamo-fascists and conspiracy wackos on the left and far right stark-raving-mad, and will likely keep them busy for years. As it turns out France's new president, Nicolas Sarkozy, lost 57 members of his family to the Nazis and comes from a long line of Jewish and Zionist leaders and heroes, writes RAANAN ELIAZ:
IN an interview Nicolas Sarkozy gave in 2004, he expressed an extraordinary understanding of the plight of the Jewish people for a home: "Should I remind you the visceral attachment of every Jew to Israel, as a second mother homeland? There is nothing outrageous about it. Every Jew carries within him a fear passed down through generations, and he knows that if one day he will not feel safe in his country, there will always be a place that would welcome him. And this is Israel."This piece was written by Raanan Eliaz who is a former Director at the Israeli National Security Council and the Hudson Institute, Washington D.C. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and a consultant on European-Israeli Affairs.
Sarkozy's sympathy and understanding is most probably a product of his upbringing it is well known that Sarkozy's mother was born to the Mallah family, one of the oldest Jewish families of Salonika, Greece.
Additionally, many may be surprised to learn that his yet-to-be-revealed family history involves a true and fascinating story of leadership, heroism and survival.
It remains to be seen whether his personal history will affect his foreign policy and France's role in the Middle East conflict.
In the 15th century, the Mallah family (in Hebrew: messenger or angel) escaped the Spanish Inquis ition to Provence, France and moved about one hundred years later to Salonika.
In Greece, several family members became prominent Zionist leaders, active in the local and national political, economic, social and cultural life.
To this day many Mallahs are still active Zionists around the world.
Sarkozy's grandfather, Aron Mallah, nicknamed Benkio, was born in 1890.
Beniko's uncle Moshe was a well-known Rabbi and a devoted Zionist who, in 1898 published and edited "El Avenir", the leading paper of the Zionist national movement in Greece at the time.
His cousin, Asher, was a Senator in the Greek Senate and in 1912 he helped guarantee the establishment of the Technion - the elite technological university in Haifa, Israel.
In 1919 he was elected as the first President of the Zionist Federation of Greece and he headed the Zionist Council for several years. In the 1930's he helped Jews flee to Israel, to which he himself immigrated in 1934.
Another of Beniko's cousins, Peppo Mallah, was a philanthropist for Jewish causes who served in the Greek Parliament, and in 1920 he was offered, but declined, the position of Greece's Minister of Finance. After the establishment of the State of Israel he became the country’s first diplomatic envoy to Greece.
In 1917 a great fire destroyed parts of Salonika and damaged the family estate.
Many Jewish-owned properties, including the Mallah's, were expropriated by the Greek government. Jewish population emigrated from Greece and much of the Mallah family left Salonika to France, America and Israel.
Sarkozy's grandfather, Beniko, immigrated to France with his mother. When in France Beniko converted to Catholicism and changed his name to Benedict in order to marry a French Christian girl named Adèle Bouvier.
Adèle and Benedict had two daughters, Susanne and Andrée. Although Benedict integrated fully into French society, he remained clo se to his Jewish family, origin and culture.
Knowing he was still considered Jewish by blood, during World War II he and his family hid in Marcillac la Croisille in the Corrèze region, western France.
During the Holocaust, many of the Mallahs who stayed in Salonika or moved to France were deported to concentration and extermination camps.
In total, fifty-seven family members were murdered by the Nazis. Testimonies reveal that several revolted against the Nazis and one, Buena Mallah, was the subject of Nazis medical experiments in the Birkenau concentration camp.
In 1950 Benedict's daughter, Andrée Mallah, married Pal Nagy Bosca y Sarkozy, a descendent of a Hungarian aristocratic family. The couple had three sons - Guillaume, Nicolas and François.
The marriage failed and they divorced in 1960, so Andrée raised her three boys close to their grandfather, Benedict.
Nicolas was especially close to Benedict, who was like a father to him. In his biography Sarkozy tells he admired his grandfather, and through hours spent of listening to his stories of the Nazi occupation, the "Maquis" (French resistance), De Gaulle and the D-day, Benedict bequeathed to Nicolas his political convictions.
Sarkozy’s family lived in Paris until Benedict’s death in 1972, at which point they moved to Neuilly-sur-Seine to be closer to the boys’ father, Pal (who changed his name to Paul) Sarkozy. Various memoirs accounted Paul as a father who did not spend much time with the kids or help the family monetarily.
Nicolas had to sell flowers and ice cream in order to pay for his studies. However, his fascination with politics led him to become the city’s youngest mayor and to rise to the top of French and world politics. The rest is history.
It may be a far leap to consider that Sarkozy's Jewish ancestry may have any bearing on his policies vis-Ă -vis Israel.
However, many expect Sarkozy's presidency to bri ng a dramatic change not only in France's domestic affairs, but also in the country’s foreign policy in the Middle-East.
One cannot overestimate the magnitude of the election of the first French President born after World War II, whose politics seem to represent a new dynamic after decades of old-guard Chirac and Mitterrand.
There is even a reason to believe that Sarkozy, often mocked as "the American friend" and blamed for 'ultra-liberal' worldviews, will lean towards a more Atlanticist policy.
Nevertheless, there are several reasons that any expectations for a drastic change in the country's Middle East policy, or foreign policy in general, should be downplayed.
First, one must bear in mind that France's new president will spend the lion's share of his time dealing with domestic issues such as the country’s stagnated economy, its social cohesiveness and the rising integration-related crime rate. When he finds time to deal with foreign affairs , Sarkozy will have to devote most of his energy to protecting France's standing in an ever-involved European Union.
In his dealings with the US, Sarkozy will most likely prefer to engage on less explosive agenda-items than the Middle-East.
Second, France's foreign policy stems from the nation’s interests, rooted in reality and influenced by a range of historic, political, strategic and economic considerations.
Since Sarkozy's landing at the ElysĂ©e on May 16 will not change those, France’s foreign policy ship will not tilt so quickly under a new captain.
Third reason why expectations for a drastic change in France's position in the Middle-East may be naĂŻve is the significant weight the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs exerts over the country's policies and agenda.
There, non-elected bureaucrats tend to retain an image of Israel as a destabilizing element in the Middle-East rather then the first line of defence of democracy.
Few civil servants in Quai d’Orsay would consider risking France’s interests or increasing chances for "a clash of civilizations" in order to help troubled Israel or Palestine to reach peace.
It is a fair to predict that France will stay consistent with its support in establishing a viable Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, existing side by side with a peaceful Israel.
How to get there, if at all, will not be set by Sarkozy's flagship but rather he will follow the leadership of the US and the EU. Not much new policy is expected regarding Iran, on which Sarkozy has already voiced willingness to allow development of civilian nuclear capabilities, alongside tighter sanctions on any developments with military potency.
One significant policy modification that could actually come through under Sarkozy is on the Syrian and Lebanese fronts. The new French president is not as friendly to Lebanon as was his predecessor, furthermore, as the Minister of the Interior, Sarkozy even advocated closer ties between France and Syria.
Especially if the later plays the cards of talking-peace correctly, Sarkozy may increase pressure on Israel to evacuate the Golan Heights in return for a peace deal with Assad.
Despite the above, although Sarkozy's family roots will not bring France closer to Israel, the presidents' personal Israeli friends may. As a Minister of Interior, Sarkozy shared much common policy ground with former Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
The two started to develop a close friendship not long ago and it is easy to observe similarities not only in their ideology and politics, but also in their public image. If Netanyahu returns to Israel’s chief position it will be interesting to see whether their personal dynamic will lead to a fresh start for Israel and France, and a more constructive European role in the region.

USC Graduation Ceremony Flops
I had the opportunity to go to the graduation ceremony at the University of Southern California (USC) on Friday. Ted Koppel delivered the commencement address full of the kind of cheep politics, left wing pandering and standard Bush bashing that one would expect from Rosie O’Donnell; “This Administration is corrupt, incompetent, etc….” or something to that effect. He then went on to try to be hip with multiple references to "smoking weed". Wow Ted, you are cutting edge cool. (the "deep" part of his speach was that even though Bush is an idiot and smoking weed is cool, the US is still a great country. Wow Ted you are cool... and deep!) Not exactly the kind of soaring inspiration that most students were hoping for. Koppel personifies the kind of old “journalism” that is thankfully disappearing; a hard core lefty who dresses up in “objective” drag. Thankfully, somewhere in the middle of his pot-smoking-Bush-bashing speech, a plane began to circle above towing a gigantic sign congratulating student David Stein for graduating, drowning out the rest of Koppel’s remarks and probably seriously embarrassing poor Stein, a communications major.
Clint Eastwood was also on hand to receive an Honorary Doctorate “for his creation of endearing characters such as Dirty Harry”. I kid you not. Of course Eastwood deserves to be honored for much more than that, but that’s how he was introduced, probably to his dismay. Upon receiving his Honorary Doctorate, students yelled “SPEECH…SPEECH!” But Eastwood refused to oblige and simply sat back down without a word.
All in all, the USC graduates did not get the kind of inspiring ceremony they so richly deserved from those old "celebrity" guest speakers, but they more than made up for it with youthful spirit among themselves, and the USC student brass band performed killer numbers, including Fleetwood Mac's 'Tusk' which put the weak VIP guests to shame.

Thousands Sing 'La Marseillaise' at Sarkozy Victory Celebration in Paris.
Lyrics:
Arise children of the nation
The day of glory has arrived.
Against us, tyranny's
Bloody banner is raised...
Liberty, dear Liberty,
fight alongside your defenders!
Short excert from the Sarkozy Victory Speech:
"France will not abandon the women who are condemned to the burqa; France will not abandon the women who do not have liberty. France will be by the side of the oppressed of the world. This is the message of France; this is the identity of France; this is the history of France....My dear compatriots, together we will write a new page of our history. This page of our history, my dear compatriots, I am sure that it will be grand, that it will be beautiful. And from the bottom of the heart, I want to say to you, with the most total sincerity which is mine at the time when I speak to you: Long live the Republic and long live France."Further signs that France may be arising from under the rock that it has been hiding for the past decades.

Jon Voight: Pelosi and Company are Feeding our Enemies
"My heart is very heavy, and I‘m really terrified by what is happening to our great nation. Our country is being divided by extremists who really believe all the propaganda that they are being fed on a daily basis by very cunning professionals. And to think that this fine man was once in bed with Hanoi Jane.
I mean, here we have American people in this country, in this city, in D.C., defacing our president, calling him unthinkable names. And what is the agenda for which they are doing this? And I find it‘s just to bring their party to power.
And these people that—and I‘m stepping way into something now—but these people who are wanting to rule with this aspect of technique have no real answer as to how they‘re going to do it, as witnessed by Nancy Pelosi‘s trip recently. And the real sad part is that they don‘t realize that they‘re feeding the enemy all the nutrients that they need to destroy us."
CNN's Glenn Beck Attacks CNN's Pro-Arab Bias
This is why I like Glenn Beck. He receives a check from CNN but refuses to suck up or bow to their stunning bias and down right stupidity. CNN pulled the Palestinian Mickey Mouse tape because they "discovered massive translation problems" and urged Beck not to use it on his show. WOW! So of course Beck held back to do more investigation. This is how the Islamist crowd sow doubt, by questioning the "translation" of material that puts them in a shameful light in the West, and their Western fellow travelers eagerly play along (as we see from comments on this site from time to time as well). Unfortunately for CNN, it turns out that there is no translation problem, let alone a "massive" translation problem. CNN's Arab translator disputed a single word, which hardly negates all of the rest of the tape, and according to MIMRI, the CNN Arab translator is dead wrong on the translation of the single word in question. I would tend to trust MIMRI's translation who have a long track record and grasp the Arabic language more than many Arabs do; And about a thousand times before I would trust the translation of a faceless CNN Arabist accountable to no one but CNN's own well known bias on all things related to the Middle East. Beck will eventually be fired by that cesspool, CNN, but until that happen we get to enjoy the great talent that is Glenn Beck.
Hezbollah builds a Western Base on Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina Border
NBC delivers a compelling piece on what many of us already knew, but has received very little coverage in the mainstream media...until now. Undoubtedly, the bombers of the Israeli embassy and Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires, came from this area:
The Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia has taken root in South America, fostering a well-financed force of Islamist radicals boiling with hatred for the United States and ready to die to prove it, according to militia members, U.S. officials and police agencies across the continent.Unraveling a Terrorist Cell
“If he attacks Iran, in two minutes Bush is dead,” Meri said. “We are Muslims. I am Hezbollah. We are Muslims, and we will defend our countries at any time they are attacked.” U.S. and South American officials warn that Meri’s and many like him represent more than a rhetorical threat.
The implications of such lawlessness could be dire, U.S. and Paraguayan officials said. Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said Hezbollah militiamen would raise no suspicions because they have Latin American passports, speak Spanish and look like Hispanic tourists.
the Tri-border has become a top-level, if little-publicized, concern for Washington, particularly as tension mounts with Iran, Hezbollah’s main sponsor. Paraguayan government officials told Telemundo that CIA operatives and agents of Israel’s Mossad security force were known to be in the region seeking to neutralize what they believe could be an imminent threat. Edward Luttwak, a counterterrorism expert with the Pentagon’s National Security Study Group, described the Tri-border as the most important base for Hezbollah outside Lebanon.

God Save the Queen... From American Informality
President Bush stumbled on his words while introducing Queen Elizabeth II at the White House. Proclaiming that the Queen had visited the country in 1776 (he meant 1976), thus implying that the queen is over 200 years old. After the gaff and the correction he looked at the queen... and winked! He then said "she gave me a look that only a mother could give a child." After that, the Queen mingled with VIP's where Mickey Rooney grabbed the Queens hand... and KISSED IT!.
all of this of course is not the first time the Queen has encounter American etiquette-short-comings. In 1991 she was given a giant hug by a large African American woman visiting a shelter, and on the same visit at the White house, in what became know as "Podiumgate" the Queen spoke at a podium so high that only her hat could be seen by the cameras and audience. Also during that visit, the current President introduced himself to the Queen as "the black sheep of the family" and then asked "Who's yours?" Barbara Bush stepped in and warned the monarch: "Don't answer that."
Six Islamic militants arrested on charges of plotting to attack Fort Dix
So the feds secretly wiretapped Islamic radicals while they were plotting "in the name of Allah" to attack strategic US targets, including Fort Dix, in an effort to "kill as many soldiers as possible". No word yet if the Democrats and the ACLU plan on filing a complaint about the "secret recordings", which undoubtedly outrages them more than the terror plot itself. And is there any word from CAIR yet on this one? It will be interesting to learn if any of the suspects have ties to CAIR, like so many in the past.

Sarkozy Wins: A Neocon Victory In France!!!
This news is enough to drive lefties and Euro-Weenie's stark-raving-mad. Nicolas Sarkozy, neo-conservative, pro-American, pro-Israel, pro-free markets and pro-individual freedom, has been elected President of France (53% to 47%). This could be the French equivalent of the 1980 Reagan revolution in the United States. Sarkozy understands the threat represented by radical Islam and will likely move to strengthen French resolve to preserve France's heritage of liberal Western culture and institutions. The Neocon congratulates Nicolas Sarkozy. It's a new day in France as the crusty old guard fades and a fresh wind blows. VIV LA FRANCE!
