Abdel Karim Suleiman, 22-year-old former law student who has been in custody since November, is the first blogger to stand trial in Egypt for his Internet writings. The Alexandria court sentenced him to four years in jail. One wonders if this sentence is applicable to any person who steps foot in Egypt or any other Arab country for that matter, because if it is, this means that anybody traveling to Egypt and has written something about Islam that they may find "offensive," could end up in an Egyptian jail. In other words, think carefully before traveling to Egypt.
Footnote: I received a comment from "anonymous" pointing out that denying the holocaust can land you in jail in Austria. The Neocon Express is on record as opposing the jailing of crackpots who deny the Holocaust, simply because it creates excuses for others to justify the jailing of innocent people like this blogger in Egypt. However, making the leap from jailing a moderate-Muslim dissident in Egypt to jailing a crackpot Holocaust denier in a place like Austria, the cradle of Nazi ideology, is hardly a moral comparison worth considering and only a confused individual would make that analogy.
