A year ago I recommended that Israel purchase the Vulcan-Phalanx as a reasonably good, relatively inexpensive solution to Israel's Gaza missile problem. Unfortunately nothing was done and civilians along the Gaza border have had to endure another year of endless barrage of primitive missiles that could easily be shot down by the Phalanx, as Israel stubbornly insists on developing a domestic system that may take years to materialize. Finally, Defense Minister Ehud Barak has decided to go with the Phalanx. Better late than never:

A better solution is "high power lasers" to blind the persons doing the launches at the attack point at the time the launch is detected. These could be tower mounted or possibly derigible mounted along the border.
ReplyDeleteIt's more humane provided that the actual shooter is blinded vs nearby collateral passerbys.
After awhile - lots of blind people and not too many more missiled launchers.
Downside: Similar retaliation.
