Israelis could learn from TR
Again, every reader of this blog knows that I am a hard-core supporter of Israel. Yet I never cease to be amazed by the blabbing that comes out of Israeli politicians. The latest inexcusable remarks come today from Prime Minister Olmert, Transport Minister Mofaz, and Defense Minister Barak:
Mofaz:
"If Iran continues its nuclear weapons programme, we will attack it. Other options are disappearing. The sanctions are not effective. There will be no alternative but to attack Iran in order to stop the Iranian nuclear programme."Olmert:
"According to the information as it is now, the pendulum is much closer to tough military action in Gaza."Barak:
"The sand in the hourglass is running out. We are at the last pinch of sand [before military action in Gaza is taken]."Is there any reason these public proclamations need to be made? If you intend to act, than act. Before the Six Day War, nothing was said and 12 hours later the Egyptian air force had been destroyed. Maintain the element of surprise and maintain your own credibility. Everyone knows what the score is by now, both with Gaza and with Iran. Repeated empty public threats serve no benefit and can only cause damage.
