I have refrained from reviewing HBO's John Adam's until the final episode aired tonight. I cannot say enough about the series. It captured the life of one of the key founding fathers with the kind of eloquence and authenticity rarely scene on television. Tom Hanks, who produced the series deserves significant praise. The entire cast preformed stunningly! Emmy's all around:
Paul Giamatti as John Adams
Laura Linney as Abigail Adams
David Morse as George Washington
Stephen Dillane as Thomas Jefferson
Tom Wilkenson as Benjamin Franklin
Certainly, with this series under his belt, Paul Giamatti is elevated to one of the greatest actors of our time. A truly heroic performance that demanded a significant range. From a young, up-and-coming lawyer, to a 90+ year old man on his death bed, Giamatti delivered authenticity at every turn bringing to life a truly important, difficult and cantankerous character.
This is a must see series, especially for students. I intend to purchase the DVD set when it comes out.
