Striped of thier honor, their dignity...and their uniforms. Blair: "I bare no ill will towards Iran"

Striped of their honor, their dignity and their uniforms, after being captured without a shot fired, after public groveling and unseemly cowardice in which they trashed their own country in only about 24 hours after surrendering, the "hero's" now return to "Great" Britain all smiles. (only the guy on the right in this photo seems to be behaving as one would expect of a proud Marine).

As I mention in the comment section: I don't blame these soldiers, they only reflect the larger problem; I blame an entire mentality of Western surrender and weakness in the face of evil (especially in Europe). These soldiers were probably not even ordered to defend themselves if confronted. They probably had little or no training for captivity, and were certainly not instilled with a healthy dose of old-fashion self-pride and the kind of values that would help them resist, and shield them from even moderate pressure to trash their own country when the moment of truth arrived.

Somehow I suspect that these Marines below would not have been as accommodating to their captors:

No Joke:Democrates Ban the Use of the term "Global War on Terror"

  1. Perhaps attacks (many of which seem to be coming very strongly from some people in the United States, although there are some in the UK too)on these people, should be restrained until they are back home and can tell their story of what went on? It may indeed confirm what you think,or it might show you reasons why they acted as they did. Such premature character assasination is very very ugly, in my opinion.

  3. You don't blame these kids? It's written all over your front page article,Joe. The major assumption that keeps coming from some elements in the U.S is that Britain and Iran were at war, and that these were prisoners of war who were brutally beaten about and should have acted as if there was a state of war on. Sheer nonsense. This was a petty maritime border dispute in which common sense and patience helped resolve it. Not blind gung ho idiocy. Our country is not going to be a pawn so that elements within the United States can get what they want handed to them on a plate,at our expense. If Iran and Britain were at war,or if the Iranians had shot at the British boat, then it would have been an entirely different matter. Can you imagine if a little boat of strangers came into waters that the Americans claimed were theirs, and the little boat started firing at them to "defend themselves" because they thought it was their "right" to do so? The boat would be blown out of the water and the arrogance of the smaller boat would be laughable.

  4. In the old days I remember that the Soviets had a term for folks in the West who were constantly taking their side (like supporting their contention of where their territorial water is, against the arguments of their own government), demonstrating for "peace" and all the rest; the Soviets called them "useful idiots". People in the West who could always be counted on to undermine the effort and by extension help the Soviet totalitarian cause. The "useful idiot" crowd has simply moved on to make excuses for a different group of totalitarian thugs; nothing new under the sky. These soldiers acted in a disgraceful manner, they embarrassed themselves and their country. I am happy they are free. I am embarrassed for them, for Britain, and for you. I know that many people in Britain understand what occurred hear and are in no mood to make excuses and engage in intellectual gymnastics in order to rationalize the inexcusable, just to sooth their ruffled egos as you seem to be doing.
