Making Westerners an “offer not to be refused,” in its latest video tape Al Qaeda issued an “invitation” for all Americans to convert to Islam: "We invite all Americans and believers to Islam, whatever their role and status in Bush and Blair's world order; decide today, because today could be your last day." This latest message, coupled with the recent forced “conversion” of the two Fox News journalists and you only begin to scrape the surface of the intention of this enemy. As during the early rise of fascism in the 1930’s, most Westerners still have trouble taking this kind of rhetoric seriously.
Some Islamic experts believe that the tape signals that a new attack is near because “Muslims believe that non-believers should be given a chance to convert before they are attacked.” And that's what this latest tape may represent.

Zawahiri and his gang are a bunch of nutcases, and are best seen as our enemy indeed. But when I first saw this latest 'Invitation / Threat' from Zawahiri on BBC News, I laughed at how far removed from reality he and his gang are becoming,to think the populous of the west is going to convert in fear due to a threat. Islam has the concept of 'Dawa' which is rather like the "Spreading the Good news" of Christianity. But these bunch of thugs threatening citizens,is so far removed it is incredible. "Convert now while stocks last". Ultimately, Europe and the U.S may become Muslim in the far future. But that will be at the choice of people. People won't convert 'authentically' at gunpoint or threat, and he should remember that. No amount of threat from this nutcase will cause me to convert to Islam. If I am to die in some terrorist attack they might have up their sleeve, I will be a "Dirty Kafir" when it happens. As these guys clearly declare themselves our enemy, how do you think it is best to deal with them? Clearly invading two countries now and thousands upon thousands of deaths (on both sides) haven't put this old man and his stupid videos out of business. We hand him more propaganda power each time we do. Every so often he pops up out of nowhere to taunt our military powers. Clearly this is getting us nowhere.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I would like to see this video myself when it is released some time. Because I understand the American guy is speaking in English for 40 mins. I hear from reports that some of the arguments being put forward are the same that people like myself bring up at times. But, he aint fooling me if he thinks I'll convert to Islam because we agree on a few things. I know what their type are, and I ain't buying it.
Although I agree that these folks seem way out of touch with reality, I also believe that it would be a very big mistake to underestimate their diabolical intentions and level of motivation/ability to execute on those intentions.
ReplyDeleteYes. Already it has been shown that they can carry out their attacks, such as the London Bus/Tube bombings. So yes they have the will and means to do so. But at their ideological level of conquering the west into Islam by force or threat, I think they are placing their hopes a little bit too high at this stage :)

ReplyDeleteSo far fighting on a convetional scale has not yeilded the anticapted results, BUT it has at least sent a lot of jihadist to paradise.
The biggest problem I see in all of this is getting many of our "allies" to see this as it is, a war for survival. Until such time as that happens these halfway measures are going no where fast.
The day that the West wakes up and puts forth a concerted effort to wipe these thugs off the face of the earth is the day Jihad will cease to exist.
And as much as I fear it, and hate the idea, there is going to be a nuclear exchange somewhere in this world's future. As sad as that may sound, it is more than likely the only way this is ever going to get resolved.

ReplyDeleteProblem is, that is exactly (replace 'west wakes up' with 'The Ummah') the way that many (but not all) of the Jihadis talk about our nations invading countries. Jihadis comes in all forms. Admittedly, some are those global domination types who dream of a global Caliphate. Others (the majority I'd suggest), are fighting back at what they see as political, economical, military, and cultural meddling in Muslim lands. As far as I understand, Bin Laden's main gripe was with American interests on the Holy Land. True, he doesn't speak for all Saudis with that. But, the guy and those who think like him won't go away if we bomb the hell out of Muslim lands and install puppet regimes. Such tactics just hand him what he wants. Do we want to hand him what he wants? If we concentrated more on our own countries and less on interfering with others, we probably wouldn't have this problem on our hands in the first place. It is possible that to avoid this feared nuclear conflict, we may have to come to some kind of compromise in future about our global influences. But, with the language in U.S Government speeches, I can't see that happening soon.
