US Editors Surrender in The Face of Fear: Churchill Rolls Over in Grave

Until now, when any interest group took action against a perceived offense in the media, US Editors were quick to stand up and confront what was commonly described as “The Chilling Effect” on free speech. Without a doubt, the Danish cartoon issue has exposed the MOTHER OF ALL “CHILLING EFFECTS” and US Editors have literally cowered in fear ever since. As a service to the cowardly Editors of so many US publications I offer the words of Winston Churchill. In a speech to the House of Commons in 1938, shortly after Neville Chamberlain returned from Munich with his worthless “Peace in our Time” paper:

I do not begrudge our loyal brave people who were always ready to do their duty no-matter what the cost. I do not begrudge them the natural spontaneous outburst of joy and relief upon learning that the hard ordeal may no longer be required of them.
But our people should know the truth. They should know that there has been great neglect and deficiency on our defenses. They should know that we have suffered a defeat without a war; the consequences of which will travel far with us along our road.
And do not suppose that this is the end, for it is only the beginning. It is only the first sip, the first taste from a bitter cup that will be offered to us year by year, unless by a supreme recovery of moral health and marshaled vigor, we arise again to take our stand for freedom, as in the olden time
.”
Winston Churchill

Editors of the United States: you have unilaterally surrendered in this latest battle. You (and by extension we) have suffered a defeat with barley a protest. But you may still redeem yourselves at a higher price in the future, because your actions today have assured that there will be many more such assaults on freedom now that the enemy knows you are so easily intimidated. This bitter cup will be offered to you (and us) year by year, until you (we) arise again and take your stand for freedom.Symposium: Banning Sharia?
