Well, calls for genocide against the infidel are not uncommon in the Arab world, but it is unusual to hear it so publicly from a top Palestinian official, who would usually be more low key in his sympathy for the idea of mass murder. These types of sentiments are usually left for Imams to express in Friday sermons to the masses. Can you understand enough Arabic to catch every word of things? I can't,anyway. So, all we can do is assume that the Palestinian Media Watch and its English translation is accurate (in this heavily selective bunch of cuts). If there is one thing shown, it is that some of these translations from Farsi or Arabic, are seriously screwed up (such as the notoriously widely repeatd "misquote" where Ahmedinejad is supposedly calling for "Israel to be wiped off the map"...which he wasn't). With this Palestinian one, the guy is ranting hoping for "Allah" to sort it out, anyway. He throws it all onto Allah to do the dirty work, rather than calling for people to act. Probably better to rant to god, than be like Senator John McCain saying - "Bomb bomb bomb. Bomb bomb Iran" and finding it rather funny to do so. Or other political notables calling parts of the Middle East an "Axis of Evil". Some areas call America the Great Satan, and Britain the Little Satan. People in our countrys go around calling them "Islamist hell holes" and asking for them to be "Nuked" without having a clue either. Conclusion? Sheer ignorance everywhere, from all sides.

ReplyDeleteI understand literally only a few words,and certainly not enough to understand a speech by that guy. Arabic is a language I'd like to learn though. I got the impression you said something to me along the lines of - "Enough! I understand it, alright? Now, get lost" (LOL) Correct?
