Like Batman and Robin, they spring onto the streets. If I'm not mistaken, I recognize one of them from last time (the "Europe, your 9/11 is on it's way" mob). 2nd photo from the end, right of the picture with a beard. He's one of them not covering his face with a tea towel, and obviously loved the global publicity last time. Attention is what they want. The plackards are hardly as threatening as last time though. Such folks "want" to get backs up, and some will fall for it. They "want" people to become enraged, and the best thing Catholics could do now, is not follow the example of outrage around the world, and infact show that they're above it. Joee says on his Blog, that they were largely ignored. That is the most 'powerful' response we can give them (IMO), because they would like to think we're as insecure, and that if they prick us enough, we will bleed and go berserk.

Now is the time for Christian teachings to show their worth, and not emulate childish tit for tat mob behaviour like we see elsewhere. I would question four things though. One : Costs to the taxpayer from police resources and time being taken up policing such events, is quite large. Two : If Catholics tried to hold a similar protest (and I hope they don't) saying similar things about Islam near the vicinity of a Mosque, the police would not allow it to go ahead. Three : Some of them were allowed to cover their faces. In most protests now in the UK, that isn't allowed. Police usually monitor such events with cameras, recording the faces of people attending potentially volatile protests. Because if trouble breaks out, it means they can be tracked down. Four : There are 'supposedly' new laws here now about 'inciting religious hatred', and if they apply to Non-Muslims, they must also apply to Muslims too. We could say that some of those plackards are inciting religious hatred.

Personally, I despise the Draconian law, because it won't be applied equally, and white non Muslims are more likely to be the target of it being enforced, than anyone else. But, if they have it they must 'not' be selective about whom it applies too. Joee said some of the police felt one or two of them could be cautioned over their plackards. That may have been just to appease Joee, or might be real. We shall see. Overall, my view is still that the best response these loonies should get, is no reponse. That would "really" enrage them, and the rage would blow up in their own face. Btw, I laughed at the - "Weird Quote of the Week", you posted : "Anyone who describes Islam as a religion as intolerant encourages violence".

I've got to admit, that one is priceless Joe :DAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
